If I were to buy the Shogun 2 gold edition (American Version) for the purpose of playing mods. What if any DLC would you recommend in addition and why or why not?

Don't you get all the DLC anyway?
Assuming you get no DLC, buy Otomo and Ikko Ikki clan DLC. And the Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack and the two campaign DLCs FOTS and ROTS.
I wouldn't say anything else is stand-out amazing, but I don't have Hattori so I can't say if they are any good.

He bought the American version (I too fell for this tom foolery of CA) so that means that he doesn't get all the dlcs except for FoTS and RoTS. The Euro edition gets a more immersive box art, and all dlc except for blood for only a few more usd. (Much cheaper than buying all the dlcs individually.)

I call the US Gold Edition: Rip Off Edition.

If you do feel like buying the additional dlc that affect both mp and sp or are decent (I don't have any so if anybody got any extras or are charitable please pm me some ) I'd suggest Ikko Ikki dlc, Sengoku Jidai unit dlc, and Otomo dlc.
