Thread: Shorter Campaign Mod (Updated to Patch 7)

  1. #1

Icon1 Shorter Campaign Mod (Updated to Patch 7)

    DESCRIPTION

The victory conditions seem to be much too high requiring players to completely dominate the ancient world with a Mediterranean wide empire. This mod reduces by half the number of regions/settlements to be controlled, the number of units to maintain, and the amount of talents to earn and/or accumulate. The number of provinces to be controlled, trade, research, and the number of buildings to construct have been left the same. Now only half the time is required to complete a campaign game. Versions have been included for 1, 2, 3, and 4 years/turn.

    CHANGELOG

    v. 1.5 – Updated mod to work with Patch 7. Victory conditions modified for Baktria.

    v. 1.4 – Added icon and changed filenames to start with aaa so mod will load last to avoid conflicts.

    v. 1.3 – Updated mod to work with Patch 5 and CA Mod Manager.

    v. 1.2 – Updated mod to work with Patch 5.

    v. 1.1 – Added the startpos.esf to a pack file to make the mod compatible with your copy of startpos.esf and any other mod that happens to change the startpos.esf file.

    v. 1.0 - Initial release with startpos.esf only.

    INSTALLATION

Extract the Shorter Campaign mod, open the folder, choose the version you want to use, and copy the pack file and corresponding icon into your Data directory.

Procedure to activate: Activate using the Mod Manager and start the game using the Launch button on the Mod Manager screen or launch from Steam. When the Steam Launch screen appears, select Mod Manager, and locate the mod in the side to side scrolling list and check the little checkbox in the upper left corner next to the mod. Click Play to launch the game.

    UPDATING

Remove the old pack file from and copy the new one to the Data directory.

    COMPATIBILITY

The PFM provided the means to incorporate the startpos.esf file into a pack file and to make a mod compatible with other mods that changed the startpos.esf. In fact, Mitch's Mod Manager shows no conflicts at all between this mod and others that change the startpos.esf. But now the CA Mod Manager has taken complete control of mod installation and load order resulting in numerous failed mod installs and conflicts. If you are using Mitch’s Mod Manager, it will bypass the CA Mod Manager and load mods correctly. Otherwise ensure that Shorter Campaign mod comes first in the alphabetical order and it will always work.

    +1 rep

Just what I need, only thing is I'm using "All Factions Playable" which makes most of its changes in the startpos.esf file.

Could you make a "friendly" version?

Good mod, thank you very much for it.

I advice you to make a version compatible with all playable factions because elsewhere you will get a lot of people asking. Personally I don't use it because many of those factions are bugged anyway, but I know a lot of people do.

It was my original idea to shorten the campaign victory conditions. Fluke and Blackie just made it possible because I had no idea on how to change them. Good job Blackie!

I just read the description for the All Factions Playable Mod which says that if startpos.esf is included in the pack file, this mod will be compatible with any mod that changes startpos.esf. I'll be doing this right away and posting a new version.

I apparently haven't made enough posts to be able to edit yet, so here's the new link for the pack files. Just unzip, choose the pack you want, copy to your data folder, and use Mod Manager to activate. No more worrying about the startpos.esf.

It would probably be better to edit the files yourself. I just edited the conditions through an ESF editor and got the objectives to update both in pre-game and campaign.

I'm not sure why it's not working for you. Are you using the startpos.esf or the pack file version? They both work for me. I've checked every primary faction and the new victory conditions are there.

I got it working with the pack version. Many thanks for this mate, the default victory conditions get a bit tedious.

No, it is not save game compatible because it changes the startup conditions for the campaign. You must start a new campaign for it to work.

Wonder if its possible to activate long or short campaigns from the Rome menu?

Have you tried putting your short campaign in the prologue folder instead. Then we can choose in game.

Blackie, what did you set military conditions at? I set them at 30 regions, 30 total units and 10 naval units.
