I think the idea was touted to carry on from Spartacus. Plenty of possible adventures there, though I would have gone for earlier to Sulla/Marius kidnapped by Pirates ect as a prequel then jump. Basically bookend 'Spartacus'... Conn Iggulden's Emperor series did well to include all the historical stuff with enough (but not too much) added fiction.

    A reminder: This returns tomorrow.

So the show is back. So far, a decent start. But I'm wondering about one thing...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

So, the remnant of Walrus' crew captured the Spanish warship equivalent to first rate ship of the line. This kind of ship has full crew complement of maybe 800 sailors. How the hell are they even able to sail it with just 34 people, including Flint (whom they probably don't even let do anything worthwhile), Silver (who's useless sailor) and Randall. And with it, they tried to take a prize, resulting in a loss of several more crew members. How many people do this kind of ship even need to sail?

This show is definitely better and it's only two episodes into the second season.

The revelation that Billy survived was nice, though expected of course.

It didn't really changed things for me.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Until the final scenes, I though the thing was more about Thomas being asexual who didn't really care if his wife had her needs tended to somewhere else. But I just feel it was written into the script to turn Flint's situation from "Couldn't keep it in his pants and really screwed things because of that" into something that would make Flint look more sympathetic character. Frankly, I don't like Flint much, but not because of the backstory. So I don't care.

It's weird, but this is a show that I keep watching even though I really can't find a likeable character there. Don't even know why...

Yeh, that came in like a wrecking ball. Nothing in Flint's character gave a hint he might have had anything other than utmost respect for Thomas and his idealism. It just seemed, awkward..

My big problem with this show is the lack of them being at sea. Kind of a prerequisite of Pirates.

Didn't see it coming, but considering his chosen vocation, there are jokes about Midshipmen.

    I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I am beginning to dread the reason why Flint tolerates Silver....

Anyway he is still the most badass pirate captain.

It was pretty disappointing, I just can't picture him as the badass Captain Flint from Treasure Island now.

    Why is that?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The dude went from being sentenced to death to stealing a Spanish warship to taking back his position as captain and now bombing a damn fort. I was also taken back but he still is Captain Flint. Besides we never see him in person in treasure island we only know of his reputation

Because it's complete nonsense, I would of preferred the Andrew Murray back story and connection to the Jacobites.

Also the reason so few sportsmen and leading film actors won't come right out and admit to it, because it does tend to affect the ability of the viewer to suspend disbelief and picture them in macho roles.

I couldn't care less he had an affair with the husband of the woman he was having an affair with. What bugged me was that it came out of nowhere, added nothing to any of the characters and just seemed thrown in for shock value. But then none of the motives for Flint's behaviour hold up to scrutiny. If I'm following it right, he wants the Spanish gold so he can rid the island of the pirates and make it an influential trading port with inland farms so he can turn round to the admiralty and tell them his friend Thomas was right. Or he could build a big mansion with peacocks roaming the lawn and a unicorn to ride on the weekends.

I just want to see vicious pirates storming merchant ships and being chased by war ships.

    Finally watched last weeks episode.

Doesn't really affect me one way or another. This is coming from the same channel that refused to allow Da Vinci's Demons to show Da Vinci as gay a year ago (they found a way around that) so I find it kind of amusing.

All I question are his motivations now...is he doing this all as revenge against England or does he truly believe in Nassau? I'd like to think its both, but we will see.

What a plot heavy episode, though.

A bit of both I think. If Nassua becomes a legitimate port outside the influence/rule of the powerhouse nations it would generate huge wealth and be a thorn in everyone's side. Flint could become an incredibly powerful man and vindicate Thomas's ideas at the same time.

I want them to focus more on Jack/Anne, they at least went on to become proper pirates..

In a way I wish that the series had created more fictional pirates that did not have to (generally) lead to Treasure Island. My knowledge of that book made it clear that Billy survived falling into the ocean, so his return, while nice, was not a surprise.

It also kind of sucks knowing what happens to all of these people in general, but such is the nature of historical shows.

    Episode nine spoilers

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Whatever was left of James McGraw just died this episode with the loss of Miranda.

And wow, what a Game of Thrones-style purge of supporting characters
