Default want to see this released? great! here is how you can help (no specific skills required)

THIS IS COMPLETE; THANKS EVERYONE FOR HELPING

    original post:

as you may have seen in the recent announcement, we have included a building that represents the population of every region of our map
all these buildings need a description, and most of them do not yet have a finished one
you can help to change that, and here is how:

open this file with any text editor:
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/1h..._buildings.rar
press ctrl+f and search for "start Population Buildings"
below this comment are the building descriptions for our population buildings, and you will see that many of the populations have a mere "TODO" as a description in the History section of the description
if you want to help us, write a very basic description, even something like 6 sentences can be enough for now, just make the TODO go away
IMPORTANT!!!!!! every line of actual text in the xml file must end with a whitespace=" ", you know, the sign the spacebar produces or it will not be displayed correctly ingame!!!!
just look at already completed descriptions if you are in need of inspiration or need to see how stuff should be set up from a technical point of view

Wikipedia is a good starting point for information, and other internet resources can provide some excellent background. If you have access to them: Brill Online, or the Oxford Classical Dictionary have a lot of excellent, well-referenced information, but there are many other good open-access sites such as Livius, Perseus and Attalus
These descriptions do not have to be overlong, and accuracy is more important than length.
Just remember that our mod takes place from 272 BC to 14 AD when you write something, the iberian people of 1500 AD may be a very interesting people, but not relevant for us

if someone wants to write a more detailed description, by all means, go for it
i can't guarantee that your stuff will be used, but if it's good, chances are good too
after you are done, simply upload the file here so others can download, see what has already been done, and take it from there

i expect this community to be smart enough to manage this on its own, without a team member moderating which descriptions have been done and which have not, just use this thread to coordinate the work
    (best smiley ever incomming)

people that do more than just 5 or 6 descriptions of acceptable quality, or few but very detailed ones, are likely to be selected for the early alpha testers, so it's not like you couldn't gain something from this (besides helping finish the mod of course)

here is a (slightly outdated) image of our map, showing where the populations are located, to help you with you work, just download it to make your life easier
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/ja...opulations.rar

    now get cracking!

I'm taking Persians, Sakae and Dahae, so don't do them, people. The descriptions should be ready in 2-3 days, as I have very limited spare time.

@fightermedic, there's no map attached to your post.

I went through the file and copied the populations that need descriptions. If I missed any let me know. I'll also try to update this on a daily basis. I will try to do Skythian, Thracian and Getic but I will start around Friday night so if someone else does them before let me know.

Let's see if we can help out. I will check the thread daily, as I said, so I don't think it will be a problem to update it. If you're going East remember all populations I listed myself in are fair game as I won't be able to write anything until Friday.

Here is something I put together by editing some wiki info on the Iberians.

The Iberians were not a clearly defined culture, ethnic group or political entity.
The name is instead a blanket term for a number of peoples the eastern and
southeastern Iberian Peninsula. The Iberians generally lived in isolated communities
based on tribal organization, but in the centuries preceding Carthaginian and Roman
conquest their settlements grew in social complexity, exhibiting evidence of social
stratification and urbanization. This process was probably aided by their extensive
trading contacts with other Mediterranean cultures. This contact with foreign
cultures also influenced Iberian art, with some Greek techniques being adopted.
The Iberian language is generally considered to have been a non-Indo-European
language, but disappeared around the 1st century AD due to the influence of Latin.

Nothing fancy, but should serve as an okay placeholder at least. Also, I can gather people's updates and stick them all together in one xml file as things go, so feel free to just post whatever you come up with. I'll also do a quick reads over edit for typos/grammar only, and to make sure things end with the appropriate space after each line. In other words, provide the text, and I'll get it all together in the xml file for us.

West Baltic, East Baltic, and Germania have something better than "todo" !!! If you'd like to look, I posted my work . It's not much, but something. I used Notepad++ Hope it works. Edit: I tried to post my work, but when I go to attach a file using the uploader, it doesn't show anything on my computer to upload

We should keep a single updated xml in the OP or in the list made by Darkan. It will be easier for prospective authors.

Tankbustaz. Good idea. But to simplify, let's just post all our work right in this thread, and once it is all done, one of us can put it all into the xml. What does everybody think?

    pop_east_baltic
East of the Black Sea where the Scythian speakers and the Sarmation
peoples and other tribes. At their greasted exten, around 100 BC, these
tribes ranged from the Vistula River to the mouth of the Danube and
eastward to the Volga, bordering the shores of the Black and Caspian
seas as well as the Caucasus to the south.
    pop_west_baltic
The term Pomerania Balts, or Western Balts, refers to Baltic people, who as early as the Bronze Age may have inhabited parts of the southern coast of the Baltic Sea. Tacitus describes these people as being amber gatherers. In the late centuries BC, cultural differences separated Balts into western Balts and Eastern Balts. At the time of the Roman Empire, the Baltic Sea was known as the Mare Suebicum
or Mare Sarmaticum. Tacitus in his AD 98 Agricola and Germania described Mare
Suebicum, named for the Suebi tribe, during the spring months, as a brackish sea
when the ice on the Baltic Sea broke apart and chunks floated about. The Suebi
eventually migrated south west to reside for a while in the Rhineland area.
Julius Caesar considered the Suebi people the largest and most warlike compared
    to the Chatti or Tencteri.
    pop_germania
Germania consists of a people who live east of the Rhine and
north of the Danube. It is inhabited by different tribes,
most of them with old Germanic roots dating back to the Lithic period,
but also some Celtic, proto-Slavic, Baltic, and Scythian peoples.
Caesar described the cultural different between the Germanic
tribesmen, the Romans, and the Gauls by stating that although
the Gauls are warlike, they could be civilized. But the
Germanic tribesmen were far more savage.

change the pop_east_baltic to the pop_sarmatia (I can't press enter and start a new paragraph for some reason); early sarmatian tribes came from East Baltic, but at the time of this game, Sarmatia is a whole lot different.

    Here goes

    Pop Ind

The word "India" is derived from the Sanskrit word "Sindhu",which was the historical local
appellation for the Indus River. Nominally, the people who lived near the river were called as
Indians. The region was settled by neolithic cultures as early as 7000BC and was one of the most
    fertile regions in the world.

Perhaps the most important settlement in the region around the river is Taxila. Although the precise date of
the city's foundation is unknown, it was a large city by 500 B.C. It was on the "Uttarpatha", the north road that
connected the northern part of the Indian subcontinent to the silk route. It was thus a melting pot of different cultures
and a large cosmopolitan environment.Legends say that the epic poem Mahabharata was composed and heard
for the first time in Taxila.

By 500 BC, when Taxila was part of the Persian empire for a time, the city was mentioned as quite big.
Xenophon's Anabasis mentions that the region east of the Hindu Kush mountains was the richest part of the Persian empire.
The Persian hold on it's new satrapy was tenuous at best, as it quickly became independent.
This love of independence would show throughout history. Perhaps the most famous example of this is the aftermath of
    the Battle of Hydaspes.

After defeating Porus at Hydaspes, Alexander embarked on a campaign attempting to secure a better foothold in the subcontinent.
He besieged several tribal forts and the major city at Sagala before attempting to cross into Northern India. After this minor
campaign his troops revolted as they wouldn't go further. This speaks volumes of the resistance put up by the minor city states
and the people in the region.

The Indian people are free minded and fierce in battle. Should a ruler respect their traditons and way of life,
they will be quite peaceful and provide invaluable support with their longbows and elephants.
However, if the ruler try to interfere in their matters,or have the gall to be foreign, he might soon find that
the might of the people of the Aryavarta is not something to be trifled with.

Good, this is nice! They way you are opening up is incredible. On the recruitment thread I saw several first pots of people volunteering, that speaks volumes of the popularity of this mod. I'm willing to be many people disillusioned with Rome II will seek refugee here, and for Jupiter they will find it, and more!
