After more than 6 years of EB II mod workshop, now the release date ... wow !

After EB I was so much motivated to play EB II in 2008 or 2009 but today I am not hungry anymore after so much new development and graphic improvement in gameplay.

For all other MTW II players : Have fun !

From what I'm reading the meaning of my post was pretty clear, in fact you have perfectly understood I was not talking of you ...

Will the EBII team keep adding features/units/graphics/art until the Open Beta is released, or did you froze it and basically we will get what the beta-testers have now + fixes from now until release date?
Never argue with an idiot; they'll drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

    Great news!!

Will you collaborate with Zarathos to break all hardcoded limits of the game?

    That would be so awesome!!!

The news piece on the main page concerning the release is rather misleading, but a beta test is still better than nothing, I presume. I'll be interested to see how the mod turns out.

Yes we will and are, that is the reason we're not rushing for a release right now.

Yes and no, it depends on the individual team members, I've personally shared information about the 300 soldier limit and the unit scale multipliers that we hacked.
That, among more hard work from their side, should allow them to include it in the patcher.

having played the TW games since shogun, EBII will be for me the pinnacle of the entire genre, maybe PC gaming in general, full stop. can't wait. unending gratitude to the EB team.

does anyone know if the Beta release will include the complete roman roster?, in other words Camillan, Polybian, Marian and Imperial units. Thanks.

Let me try and help set expectations, because some people hear the word "beta" and assume the worst (buggy mess). Others are hearing that EB2 will soon be released and are so amped up they will probably be disappointed. So here's my opinion (not that of everyone on the team, mind you), because to me it's somewhere in between those two extremes (originally posted on the Org):

Quote Originally Posted by Kull View Post
I struggle with that terminology ("open beta"). When we release v.72 of EB1, THAT was a beta. It was buggy and crashed frequently. It was still fun, but the stability issues were frustrating. Not until v.74 (about 4-5 months later) were most of the worst CTDs tracked down and removed. That was a fairly complete game, but we still called it a beta as it was pre 1.0. Another 7 months go by and the team releases v.80. Huge improvements across the board, but randomly buggy and technically still a beta. Finally a few updates later, we released v1.0. Was that "finished"? Were all the bugs gone? No to both questions.

For me personally something is an alpha when it's not even playable...just a mess. A beta is full of bugs and likely to crash at any time. So where is EB2 in all this? We'll have 200 units out of a planned 500, so on that basis we're only 40% done. On the other hand the game hasn't crashed in MONTHS. So what is it? From my perspective, it's incomplete. And it will remain so for years to come, in all likelihood.

But will it be fun to play? Will it continue to be upgraded in various areas? Yes. So people should enjoy it for what it is, and help identify some things that can make it better. But it will not be a chore. It will be immersive and very interesting. The historical accuracy alone is breathtaking to me. Head and shoulders above what we did in EB1.

So people can call it anything they want, but we think you'll enjoy it.
