Thread: Can't build barracks in captured rebel settlements

Default Can't build barracks in captured rebel settlements

In any campaign that I play in, all of the new settlements that I gain with exception of a couple like Ikana do not let me construct barracks even after all of the prerequisites have been constructed. Is this a bug? Thanks!

    Do you have the armorer?

I know the issue too. The armorer is built, but the barracks remain unbuildable. I think I know the reason too. As you might have noticed, you can not upgrade your settlements, you can only change the status of them. That means, that the settlement level is too low to allow building of barracks. That means, you don't upgrade you'r settlements traditionally from motte-and-bailey to wooden castle etc. If I remember correctly, you can't build barracks in small village (Or whatever the smallest settlements were called) and despite possible battle map differences it is not developed enough to allow barracks. It is simply a minor thing that has not been noticed in the script, not a bug. I believe it is pretty easily fixed in the descr_buildings.txt-file, so have a look at it. Just now I have no possibilities to test my theories.

I'd like to post here as well. I often find I can't build barracks or recruit units in some settlements. Procuring a list of specific settlements may be in order.

Forgive me for bringing this back up, but the problem seems to be still around, as I experienced it personally when playing as Zora and taking Val Jabun.
Apparently, this happens in every settlement which is labelled as "Castle" and has the level of "Village" (those settlements are labelled "Ruins" on the management scroll). Curiously, Hylia Marine, which is a Village aka Ruins as well but not a Castle, can have its Barracks built (note that Settlement and Castle Barracks, despite having the same form, are two different EDB entries).
I managed to fix the problem myself by upgrading each one from "Village" to "Town" in the Descr_Strat, but I can't fully understand its nature.

Thanks Apani, so that's what it was. You don't have to change the settlement levels, rather take a loot at line 3381 at the EDB, the line should say 'settlement_min village' but it's 'settlement_min town' instead. Change that and all is well in the kingdom again. Just tested and val jabun can build barracks now.

I've been struggling with the same issue myself but I couldn't figure out why some of the ruins could not build barracks. So stupid not to realise the thing those had in common was that they were all villages...
It took Apani's post to realise that. Thanks for that. It was pretty obvious from that point on.

And Teknokraatti was right about his assumption up there all along too, yet no one tried it. Sometimes the collective stupidity of the community here makes me facepalm. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt us if we stopped to think for a moment?
Naah, what am I thinking? That would require effort, I can't do that.
