I play a few hours after each patch to see if the AI is still dumb and how the game performs. Hasn't changed much at all.
I've reverted to Napoleon: Total War with Darthmod. So far played 47 turns, and I've only managed to capture 6 regions. (3 within the last 6 turns, because I've crippled France by taking Paris, so it can't send as many armies at me anymore). It took me about 15 turns to capture Paris, even though I kept trying. They held me off fairly successfully until I managed to raise a second army. That said, here's a collection of some of the stuff I've been forced to face:
And that's not even close to everything. In the meantime I've lost Gibraltar, sank the French fleet of 15 ships that was trying to transport Napoleon's 10 000 to England, captured Amsterdam, fended off 2-3 more French armies.
I originally started as Sweden, and to my shame I lost the second campaign I've ever lost in a Total War game. (first game I ever lost was with Hattori in Shogun 2). I was facing double the amount of troops from Prussia when Napoleon landed next to Stockholm with 10 000 troops. I had no income and I could only sustain about a 30 unit army, while I was facing much larger ones constantly. Here's the picture I took from my situation:
It also looks beautiful. I'm running everything on max and it runs like a charm. Much better than anything Rome 2 has managed, even when I was playing a co-op campaign with a friend with low unit sizes.
It's surprisingly satisfying to play. I kinda skipped Napoleon, only played it a little bit, but Rome 2 really left me wanting for a new Total War experience.
So yeah, overall I much more satisfying experience. The AI isn't of course that smart, but at least it puts up a fight.
EDIT: Oh yeah, this was a crazy battle where the enemy reinforcements kept coming in a steady stream and I almost ran out of bullets. The only reason I won was because the timer(60 minutes) ran out and I was the defender.
It got intense, because they didn't stop coming...
