I preferred the graphics and the interface and the city management in the original Rome Total War, but while the family tree was nice it was actually just something left over from Medieval Total War. The political factions and changes of generals in Rome II are actually more historically accurate and realistic for the Roman Republic and Carthage for instance - and even in kingdoms which were ruled by a Royal family there were often coups and civil wars among competing noble houses or members of the royal family.
If you use a 4 turn per yer mod for Rome II it actually is more realistic than Rome I in that respect.
The limit on the number of armies each faction can have in Rome II also helps make battles make much more difference than they did in the original Rome Total War and avoids the AI spamming armies at you in endless battles that just got tedious in the mid to late game in the original Rome Total War.
There's a lot wrong with Rome II, it's been rushed out far too fast, and there's a lot that needs fixed (instant transports from anywhere capable of fighting warships, poor siege/assault AI etc) but there are some things that are actually improvements on the original Rome - and with patches and modding it could eventually be pretty good.

Lost in the confused muddle of features built for a meta critic score that don't add up to a game a human being feels epic in.

Well, I don't use spoiler tags since I never put out no more than 4-5 pictures at a time, as a result, it smacks you right in the face with,
'WOW' 'what happened to Rome 2'. How can a 10 year old game design, even with mods so surpass CA's latest creation.'
I was going to put just a few more epic pictures up before going to bed, but not wanting to upset krisslanza, I will respectively wait until tomorrow. Let no one say I'm not a gentleman.

I don't think I ever said it upset me, it's just kind of cluttery. I mean, this topic isn't some screenshot sharing thread - and even if it was, it'd still be respectful to spoiler tag a dump of images to make the thread easier to navigate.
And while they look nice, they don't really seem all that impressive as you claim. They aren't bad though. Rome 2 looks nicer though graphically. Gameplay wise... I still give the edge to Rome 2. Rome 1 had some nice features, but some of them were just kind of annoying.

Awesome Roma Surrectum 2 Screenshots Stackero . I installed that mod for my disk copy of Rome 1 a few days ago and I haven’t stopped playing it. It looks really good its hard to believe how good they have made the old game look and overall Rome 1 with RS2 is way better than Rome 2

I wish I had checked out Roma Surrectum 2 before buying Rome 2 it would have saved me £30 Its freaking Awesome and free. Everyone who is disappointed with Rome 2 should give this a blast this video will tell you why..

Not even close.
Also, Rome Serrectum has no place in a comparison between Vanilla Rome 1 vs. Vanilla Rome 2, which is what this thread was clearly intended to be. You can come back with that mod in a few years, when the first significant Total Conversions for Rome II are out.
