My first entry into making my own helmets; its a very primitive, simplified, prototype of what I call a ba crown composed of a simple wooden crown and between 50-100 reeds standing out of this crown.

This is a proof of concept only.

I used a hair/fur modifier on the top plane of a tube basic shape, then, after choosing the appropriate values for the modifier, I converted the modifier into polygons. I then placed the resulting assembly of rods into the center of another tube shape, combined them, rigged, textured, exported, and tested them. They work as seen in the photo though as yet are not very attractive.

Another thought is, make the hair portion a solid model, which can then be given a hair texture. that cuts down on polygons and is more similar to what actually existed(probably). Look at this surviving helmet holder:

You notice their is no area on the helmets rim for the hairs to be attached, which means they were bundled together(maybe)in the middle. Also look at this sculpture, which shows it was a solid top of hair, not just a ring:

    Hope this helps.

-edit- Turkenlouis linked as his final image a picture that would indicate the 'ring' model of this specific type of helmet, which I honestly attribute to artistic license. Material evidence seems to focus on the solid top of hairish stuff

this may sound a bit rude, but: it's finished, when it's finished.
we are doing this in our scarce free time. but we are planning on releasing a custom battle beta in the near future

Can some one please put the packs on the Dropbox so I can start on my Canaanites again? There's nothing there except for the custom weapons and shields.

I love this mod! But there are a few crucial factions that may be missing...

    Dilmun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilmun)
    Phoenicia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenicia)
    Tartessos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartessos)

    Dilmun is really possible
Tartessos is a speculation thing, it is more an early iron age faction.
Phoenicia is possible, as an emerging faction or as rebels around Byblos . The Canaanites were the ancestors so I think Phoenicia is not needed.

If Dilmun is not in the mod then that is news to me since I am sure we agreed during the very early stages of the mod that Dilmun would be one of the playable Arab factions.

Dilmun would be situated in North eastern Arabia (what Bahrain was until it became part of Saudi Arabia) and replace Gerrhaea.

I am actually researching them now and have been for a while.

As for Phoenicia no such thing exists, we are structuring Phoenicia based off of independent city states, Sur (Tyre), Alalakh (close to Antioch) and Urusalim (Jerusalem).
