Thread: Urban Cohort for Rome

  1. #1

    Default Urban Cohort for Rome

This mod adds the Urban cohort to Rome for custom battles and campaign built at the lvl 4 legionary barracks. This pack should be compatible with any other mod, so long as the other mods files do not begin with rup_. Tested on Patch 2, but should be compatible with all current versions.

There is one minor mistake with the shield decal, as it gives the urban shield decal I made to the eagle cohort as well. Later today I will be releasing a small unit pack or rome, which will include the fixed Urban Cohort(using own text array for shield decals instead of sharing eagle cohort decal array), roman slingers, roman archers, and archer auxilia.

As these guys were a city police force, should they not look less bad ass?

Yes the urban cohort was in essence a police force, but they were also some of the best trained, best equipped, and best payed legionaries.

There is no current limit cap on the unit.

I haven't tested the pack with any of Radious's mods yet; considering as they are popular I might as well start.

I removed all my mods , leaving in data folder only RomeUnits.pack , I load the pack with ModManager and the game starts normally ... once on the menu page ,I click on Custom Battle and the game freezes and I have to manually close RTW2 ...how did you guys make it work ?

Sorry it is a decent effort but urban cohorts would not have worn battle line lorica segmenta, The urban cohorts (cohortes urbanae) were an important part of the garrison of the city of Rome during the Roman Empire. They provided the emperors at Rome with extra military force to deal with problems in the city, and also participated in civil wars and foreign wars on rare occasions. How ever it is more likely they would have worn hamata not lorica, also they would have been less trained that the legions proper more like a Civil defense force.

The Urban Cohort of the original RTW were no historically accurate, and neither are these. The Urban Cohort of RTW were the best heavy infantry Rome had to offer, so that's more or less what these guys are: praetorians crossed with armored legionaries.

Looks pretty good, I like it.
    Those Cohorts look sweet.

I believe I fixed the issue, it involves the fact that unit cards in pack files crash the game. The fixed version is in my rome unit pack thread, but lower down the page as I cannot edit my posts yet.

Is there a easy way to make this unit a General's Unit, with out having to use the all units as generals type mods?

I remember there is a document said a emperor create 3 new Praetorian Cohort, then rename to Urban Cohort, in order to surpass Praetorian if Praetorian Cohort riot against the emperor. In other words, they used to be elite.
