Thread: Where's My Rome 2

  1. #1

    Default Where's My Rome 2

I’m not going to make another long list of things wrong with Rome 2, there are so many already. I’ll just say this, after 80hrs of playing various powers and wanting badly to love, or at least like the game; I’ve concluded; if they do patch, fix and mod the game it still will not be worthy of the name ‘Rome 2’.
This game launch was nothing more than a quick money grab. I admit I fell for all the hype by watching too much of the well done trailers. I was wary the game might be too hollow, but no, they wouldn’t dare. This is to be the game of the decade, Empire building, dynamic land and sea battles with magnificent sieges. Role-playing your generals and families to at least a minor level. Being able to see all the different building you construct for your cities. It has none of this. You would think there would be no way to mess up the tactical battles with CA’s experience in that area. Wrong.
I didn’t believe R2 would have all I wanted in it, but nothing? Go look at ‘Rome 1’ with all its mods and tell me R2 is better or even equal to the dynamics of most of those mods like ROMA SURRECTUM or EB!; Building cities and fighting battles where formations count for something. If we’re lucky the EB1 team will within a year give us the real Rome 2; EB2 `by modding Medieval 2 Kingdoms.
Remember Empire; all the hype and promises? It took two years of patching and genus modding to make it tolerable to play. Now Rome 2, which may not be as broke as Empire was, but it still needs a lot of patching and as I said; it still won’t equal most of the mods from the older Rome 1.
Unfortunately, CA seems to have half hazardly threw things together, borrowing some ideas from other games, without at least looking at the R1 mods to possibly reap some ideas from them. I really don’t know how CA people can show their faces in defending R2. I have no confidence in their ability to continue the Total War franchise. I'm done, $60 is the last money I spend on TW games
Yes I know, all TW games had problems on release, but they all had great potential. Rome 2 does not, unless they go as far as redesigning large parts of the game. Not going to happen. I’m sure they’ll put out a lot of cool looking DLC but it won’t make the game what it should be; ‘Rome 2’. I hope I’m wrong about it all, but I’m not.

    There’s only three kinds of people who are going to still be playing this game for more than the 80 hrs I did;

#! Fanboys, who will tolerate no criticism of their beloved series and will always, make some excuse for the condition of the game.

#2 The optimists, who believe the game, will one day rise to their original expectations.

#3 Those who are easy to please.
    That is all.

Wow, another of this hate thread? That is soooo original! There are only... oh wait... 95% of the subforum... and a 90 page complaint thread.

Nobody cares about your meager opinion, good night.

If that was the case, they would have made a pure Shogun2 clone, and everybody would have been happy. I can say most definitely that a lot of work has gone into Rome2.
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

People should have to end making this kind of threads.. there's more than enough of this that you can just pick one and post in there instead. Sorry but its just getting very tiresome.

You're right. You got me on this one. There is just to many threads similar to mine. I wonder why?
Nobody cares about my opinion! I'm hurt. Show me the polling data, I'm sure it would vary.

Okay, I agree i may have went a little over board with the words' quick money grab'. Should have said the suits pushed the game out before the game was ready so they could quickly rake in the bucks. And yes, alot of work went into Rome 2 and it needs more work than I believe SEGA will let CA put in to it to make it worthy to be called Rome 2. Just guessing of course.

I agree. And it's only going to get worse.

So then why did you make this thread then ...
But I think the game is somewhat playable, some is good, some is bad.
    I guess I'm number 2 and 3 then.

I vent. Because I’ve been a die-hard fan of TW games since the first shogun, and Rome 1 with all it’s mods has always been my first love, but look now, a game masquerading as Rome 2 is supposed to take up the armor, shield and spear to represent the greatest ancient wargame of the decade. I bleed outrage.
Rome 2 may become a playable fun game, mixture of 1/3 Age of Empires, 1/3 Civilization and 1/3 Total war, but I mourn for what could have been.
Ah heck, it’s just a game right. Back to the many mods, for the other TW games. Just let it go, that’s it. Just let it go. (sniff sniff) The world still turns. I wish I could be a number 2 or 3. Signing off now.

Roma Surrectum and the like took 3+ years to put together to resemble their present day veneer. Aswell as being built on top of an already 'completed' game. I think its pretty unfair to compare a just post release Rome. I think I'm a fourth option: 4. Realizes it is JUST A GAME.

Also have you tried it on legendary? It is quite simply the way it was meant to be played, thoroughly enjoying my Rome campaign, in spite of (In my eyes the games greatest fault) Non-existent siege AI.

True enough about Roma Surrectum and other mods and I concede Rome 2 may very well become a good game given time.
However, I don’t believe I’m being unfair about the prospects of the game with its current play features (there are a few good ones) becoming a true Rome Total War 2. It’s too much of a. hybrid and would require CA to redesign and or upgrade a substantial part of the game and I don’t believe they will.
For instance the city, region, and province design needs to be replaced. Cities are boring and too few.1 year turns got go and bring back the family tree. There’s no feeling of grandeur. .
As for battles I tired of seeing my disciplined ranks march into battle only to break ranks within seconds of contact with the enemy, one big brawl, every man for himself. In the game I fought many battles but I never fought one battle that matched the epic feel of one of Rome1 mods.
Watch though, before they even fix all the bugs you can bet they’ll be turning out the DLC. I do hope I’m wrong. I quit trusting CA/Sega when Empire came out and even more so now, but I don’t hate the game, I want to play it, but it would take a lot of convincing changes in the game for me to reinstall. But still, it’s only a game.
I do believe I’ve said all I can say about this game in these string of threads. But don’t count on it.

It looks like the old hardcore fans who are there from very beginning (like me from Shogun 1) are very dissapointed. But those players they just jumped on this train are quite happy with game like this. They just cant compare. Or they are just very easy to please. One way or the other, I agree with OP and this game is quite big dissapointment for me not to mention huge promises from CA (lies).
Very good rocking song. The message of the song: WHEN PEOPLE LEARN TRUTH ABOUT UKRAINIAN WAR, THEY WILL GO INSANE!! (I suggest to turn the english subtitles on. Its over 18only because of violent pictures) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AAR6nUV7VI

and the worst thing is that Shogun 2 was a great game but it lacks variety. On the other hand Rome 2 offers lots of factions and different units, but all core gameplay mechanics are either broken or completely gone.

I care about his opinion and he makes a very valid point.

I certainly don`t care for the way you and the rest of the children use the word `hate` so much and so completely out of context. For some reason you and others think it`s clever. It isn`t. Please go and get a dictionary and try to be more original by using a word that is actually in context like `criticism` and `point of view`.

I have to agree with you, and my sympathy to the OP.
This should of gone in an existing thread, but I understand that the OP needs to clear his frustration.

Those of us who waited for mods like EB and RS got something great. Because R2 is 10 yrs on from R1 we were hoping for something great and in some area's it actually went backwards.
I just spent £1300 on my new gaming PC and monitor, I'm hoping that I won't have to give up on CA, because they make the only games I like(but sometimes they need to be modded first to make them really good)

But the others are correct as well, enough of all this already, lets move on, next time vote with your wallet, we have DLC and expansions coming, lets see how the patching comes along first, CA may redeem something yet.

I suppose i am one of those "fan boys" who squint hard, cover their ears and want believe the best...but after 60 hrs and a good stretch with patch 2 beta, I have come to the reluctant conclusion this game can never reach the heights of previous titles.

If you need first hand evidence, just start a new game of ETW.

I did and it depressed me to hell. Just think back to your opening move in Empire, think of all the decisions you had to make about your government, economy, tech and political situation. Think of all the tabs you clicked and read because you needed to know the world around you to succeed. By the time you hit end turn, you really were in the 18th century.

Rome 2 has little of the depth and wonder ETW has in spades and I do not think you can mod that stuff in. I used pore through endless threads to learn new strategies and rewards; the Rome 2 strategy section is empty.

    I really am depressed

Well, hang on a for a little while longer. In a few weeks or months CA will likely make it playable. Still, don't get too exited about it. I said playable, not fixed or upgraged with new features and such, and like you said, "this game can never reach the heights of previous titles".
I have little trust in what CA says but I suspect they'll patch and fix as much as budget and time allows. Because their going to want some DLC cash flow before they move on.
But again, that may not happen if they know they'll have to spend to much money and time getting the game playable, and the returns on DLC sales will be unworthwhile. Watchout though, if they start trying to sell DLC when you know the game still isn't playable, and remember; everyone has a different definition of what playable is. I myself will go back to try and play the game if I believe it's been made playable, but I don't expect to put as many hours into it as other total war games. Total War mods is where to go now. Dozens of mods to chose from.
I and an army of TW fans are feeling your disappointment, and that's putting it mildly.
