I’m not going to make another long list of things wrong with Rome 2, there are so many already. I’ll just say this, after 80hrs of playing various powers and wanting badly to love, or at least like the game; I’ve concluded; if they do patch, fix and mod the game it still will not be worthy of the name ‘Rome 2’.
This game launch was nothing more than a quick money grab. I admit I fell for all the hype by watching too much of the well done trailers. I was wary the game might be too hollow, but no, they wouldn’t dare. This is to be the game of the decade, Empire building, dynamic land and sea battles with magnificent sieges. Role-playing your generals and families to at least a minor level. Being able to see all the different building you construct for your cities. It has none of this. You would think there would be no way to mess up the tactical battles with CA’s experience in that area. Wrong.
I didn’t believe R2 would have all I wanted in it, but nothing? Go look at ‘Rome 1’ with all its mods and tell me R2 is better or even equal to the dynamics of most of those mods like ROMA SURRECTUM or EB!; Building cities and fighting battles where formations count for something. If we’re lucky the EB1 team will within a year give us the real Rome 2; EB2 `by modding Medieval 2 Kingdoms.
Remember Empire; all the hype and promises? It took two years of patching and genus modding to make it tolerable to play. Now Rome 2, which may not be as broke as Empire was, but it still needs a lot of patching and as I said; it still won’t equal most of the mods from the older Rome 1.
Unfortunately, CA seems to have half hazardly threw things together, borrowing some ideas from other games, without at least looking at the R1 mods to possibly reap some ideas from them. I really don’t know how CA people can show their faces in defending R2. I have no confidence in their ability to continue the Total War franchise. I'm done, $60 is the last money I spend on TW games
Yes I know, all TW games had problems on release, but they all had great potential. Rome 2 does not, unless they go as far as redesigning large parts of the game. Not going to happen. I’m sure they’ll put out a lot of cool looking DLC but it won’t make the game what it should be; ‘Rome 2’. I hope I’m wrong about it all, but I’m not.
There’s only three kinds of people who are going to still be playing this game for more than the 80 hrs I did;
#! Fanboys, who will tolerate no criticism of their beloved series and will always, make some excuse for the condition of the game.
#2 The optimists, who believe the game, will one day rise to their original expectations.
#3 Those who are easy to please.
That is all.
