I have no idea if this is a bug or intended behavior, but it seems really wacky to me. This is what my troops look like when they've "picked up" the Tortoise.
Excuse the darkness in the photos, this was during a night battle.
Where my troops stand while operating the tortoise.

You can't tell in the SS, but the ram portion of the engine is swinging back and forth in this photo

These are my troops moving the Tortoise to another section of wall, after having breached the previous target. Notice the orientation of the engine, and how my troops continue to stand in perfect formation without touching the engine.

In this photo, my troops have been ordered to move the engine away from the walls and return to the main body. Note how they are now humping the engine and beautiful clipping ensues.

Here, they are somehow moving the engine even though it maintains a distance of 30 feet in front of them. Both the troops and the engine are moving in unison in this photo.

And then this.

Simply because it's kind of hiliarious.
Yes. There is an arrow sticking out of his head, and yet he still lives. Took him about 30 seconds to die.
It was my understanding that they were supposed to get INSIDE the tortoise much like they do in a gallery or tower. The texture on the engine even suggests there is a little door for them to go into. What good is the siege engine if all my troops operating it are completely and utterly exposed? How the hell is the pulley system that clearly shows ropes to move the ram going INSIDE the tortoise, supposed to work if there are no troops inside to pull on it?
My first siege in the game was also a complete disaster with rams, which simply burn in flames after some oil and fall under the bridge, and this strange and useless tortoise, which broke the wall between guard tower and main gate, but I couldn't use this hole to move in. I've restarted this siege 3 times and only ladders were useful.
Lol maybe I should have posted that photo in a different thread. No one's focusing on the bigger issue at hand here.... lol
Is the Tortoise supposed to operate in this way!?!?
Sorry but I can't see the bigger issue at hand from your screenshots and I have never used a tortoise. Isn't it supposed to be able to breach a wall?
Or are you referring to the graphical issues? Because I wouldn't call that "bigger" than having a lot of arrows stuck in the soldiers..

Seriously? .. It's moving by itself... no soldiers touching it.. derp

torongill, I missed you, how do you find the ladders?
I don't think I will find out very soon, had to spend the hardware budget on car repair. Right now I'm stuck with a laptop that can fry eggs when I start Darthmod Napoleon and have to fight a field battle.
Edit:
About the Armoured tortoise: it was moved by men inside the pyramid that's under the ram. The same reason why there are no rowers in the ships.

I got the point ;D ... and yes the tortoise is just half assed like everything in this game xD
That guy had the misfortune of having the letters CA on his shield. I bet those spears are from his own faction. The little dudes in RTW2 are not happy with their lot!
