    Uniform Re-Colour Mod

A personal mod I've been working on to remove what is maybe my most loathed piece of Rome 2 so far... the hideous faction uniform colours. Huge immersion breaking problem IMO.

    The mods main aims are:
    • To remove and/or reduce the vibrant colours a lot of factions have, killing the immersion of gritty dark warfare.
    • To bring standardization of colour scheme to factions who warrant it. Yellow Romans?.... GAHH!!!
    • To give generic cloth type coloured material to factions who would never have had a standardised colour scheme. "So then, random Eastern rebel tribe, you mean to tell me you all wear pink/orange/green outfits to war? Interesting"

    Some example images so far...

Rome, removed their tertiary colour of bright yellow.
    Rome

Carthage uniforms changed from Green/Red/White to White/Light Gray/Dark Gray.
    Carthage

Suebi, removed the bright orange scarfs and full orange body suits.

    DOWNLOAD

Note: This is largely just a template atm, with all outlandish colours removed, this is by no means yet entirely historically accurate, least of all for 140 factions! I ask you to play the game, and if and when you come across a faction that needs their uniform colour changed, note down their name and come tell me (basing your request on facts) so I can update them! Simples!

    Install:
    1) Unzip mod, place the pack in your data folder
    2) Use mod manager to launch, or use your userscript.txt if you know how.

Remember, feedback and suggestions are welcome and needed,

    Cheers!

Looks great, do you think you could perhaps change the Suebian colour to something other than purple? Purple being only available in the ancient world from Mediterranean shellfish of some sort and then massively expensive. Not what German barbarians should be wearing.

As I understood it, you've now made the romans red/red/red instead of red/red/yellow?

    I'd rather have it be red/red/light brown-beige

Tbh I was going to. When I first envisioned what exactly I wanted I was going to set all barbarians and rebels, etc. to grays, dark grays and maybe some dark and faded browns.

I decided to not stray TOO much from the main factions colours, but I'm likely to change my mind and go with my initial desire.

Well, even a muted or earthy Orange or some sort would still fit in with their main colour and be more plausible. Follow your desires! Carthage looks awesome btw, I was boggled by the Christmas colours when I saw them.

eh, actualy vibrant colors were commen during this time, the mederatraian people loved color, yellows, purples, blues, whites, greens ect. were all commen, the greeks even painted their bronze helmets red and blue.We even have evidence of pink greek armor.

I'd love to see one for Epirus. They are the most desperate for a colour change. Bright Orange and Green? Who thought that was a good idea.

While I don't mind the green being removed for carthage, wouldn't replacing the red with a more washed out/darker one and a replacer for green make more sense? They seem a bit too uniform other wise, same for the romans, maybe some light brown or off white tunics and shield, or something like that to add a bit of variety.

Yes! 1st start to recolors!.. Can I ask, did you teak the RGB values using PFM? Or are we able to actually load up a .dds and edit in PS like back in the old ETW days?

Glad to see this, I was planning on changing it for the Carthaginians (at least the green bit, so I am not fielding the Christmas armies!).

I'm personally not a big fan of the white used in most of the Hellenic units, such as the hoplites, especially Sparta.

    Night and day change.

    Ideas:

Parthia: Looks terrible right now. The orange kind of works, but the light blue and whatever else they have looks truly terrible, no idea what youd need to choose to fix it, but maybe some more neutral colours? The parthians historically wore colourful clothing but they had almost no uniform like the game portrays: ive seen art depicting them as an almost rainblow like array of colours. So anything bright would theoretically work. Just use colour theory and good judgement I suppose.

Rome: the red you used to replace the yellow looks a bit too much like the initial red they have. Maybe if the two are made to contrast a bit better the effect would look even better!

Epirus: By the gods, everything about Epirus looks TERRIBLE. Fixing them wont be easy. The orange might actually look okay if its neutralized heavily and kept very light, but the green needs to go. No idea what it should be swapped with. Damn near anything that doesnt make them look like a bunch of hooligans on St. Patricks day.

Athens: Could also use some better colours. Their blue is a bit too light to take seriously (for me) and the white they have doesnt really compliment it well. Perhaps a gray and dark blue? I'm not sure.

Macedon: I actually like this faction a lot, but having soldiers in black doesnt make a whole lot of sense culturally, and their reddish hue is probably a bit too dark.

Arverni (the playable gallic faction, its name escapes me): The green is good, but the orange (?) hue they also have looks... kind of terrible. A better choice would be an earth tone brown of some sort.

Mitch you are my new one sided best friend! You basically took the words right out of my mouth. I chose to play macedon first a long time ago because they were the "black" faction and wow was I surprised when I got this yellow white & black ugliness on my screen. I dislike bright and vibrant colors and couldn't agree with you more on this! I like what you have done so far and agree on the suebi colors you discussed possibly doing. But you did make them much better so far.

It would be nice to see more tunic variations for the Romans. They are famous for wearing red ones, but I remember that I've read in a history magazine that they also wore white tunics.

Ok, I just finished going through all 140 factions.. wasn't fun.

    My changes went something like:

Everyone with bright colours now either have much darker/toned down versions of their colours or fitting material style colours.
Most barbarian/rebel type factions have fitting dark greys, brownish type colours to make them look like ordinary people not coloured uniformed troops.

I'll be releasing in a few minutes so everyone can try it out, it's likely an ongoing project and will be constantly changing colours as an when reports come in of more suited colours for factions. (As I obviously couldn't test 140 factions ingame)
