Hey, is there a way to disable the shader effects on the go? With a hotkey or disabling everything quickly and pressing the Pause button or anything really.
It is possible to make this game look like the alpha game-play, but that required editing the lighting and environment files (which is entirly possible see aztec's mod)

Run the game and nothing happens... game doesn't launch unless i remove d3d9.dll
I did it but it doesn't work.
The game never launch
I think someone have some luck and someone not with GEM for win 8.1
Try renaming d3d9.dll to d3d11.dll
Use the scroll-lock key (default) to toggle GEM.
What does "nothing happens" mean? Do you find a dxgi.log file in your folder?
What graphics card do you have and do you also have a dxgi.log file in your R2 folder? R2 should run with DX11 not with DX9 (which is bugged a lot).
No, this will not help.
This will not help either.
Replacing the libraries will not help you
I am about to (permanently) move to the other side of the globe and therefore have to organize a lot of things. Also I have to leave my current development environment behind and the system to play this or other games. Therefore, I cannot continue working on further improvements for the time being but will come back once the time is right.
I hope you will still enjoy the tool I gave you and build on more presets since many things should be possible with that and only few features come into my mind that I could have implemented.
Thanks for all your support, the great time (you maybe know how addicting tweaking can be) and I will try to still look into this forum and all related forums when ever I find the time.
Here some important milestones of GEM::
First GEM version based on DX9 right after R2 release
The first DX11 implementation of GEM
Release of GEM 1.0
First time working Gauss and Grain shaders (trials with DX9)
Release of GEM 2.0 HD (from now on softens edges for HD monitors)
The realistic shader at its limits with GEM 3.x
------
After a few patches CA suddenly changes the BA environments and some of the graphics
------
New approach of the realistic shader with GEM 4.1
More trials with the bugged DX9 version which sets a standard for the future 5.0 release
Trials with dynamic depth of field (never released) and new environments for BA and CA (new implemented no HDR, bloom regulations and sun changes)
Release of GEM 5.0 together with the HBO filter
Recent release of GEM 5.4 bringing the environmental lightning from other projects

Hmmm...I know something worked after I tried that method on Win8.1, but maybe I missed a step somewhere.
Somewhat related: Have you heard any word from the SweetFX/eFX devs on getting ENB to work in DX11? Or is it a unicorn that just can't be chased down? I installed the Win7 version of GEM on my laptop, and I find it noticeably better.
SweetFX and eFX devs work together but definitely not with the ENB dev. While GEMFX, SweetFX and eFX work with DX11 and everything earlier, ENB is and was always based on DX9 since Boris does not want to implement on DX11. I personally use no ENB anymore. GEMFX is based on the open source code for FXAA injectors and my own implementations. This implementation is using the d3dx library and can therefore not be used for newer DX11 version which are exclusive on Win8.1 platforms. Thats why you have the eFX version as an alternative.
Thank you very much for your detailed explanation.
And while I (like many others) will be sad to see you go, it sounds like you're moving to an exciting new chapter, and I hope that works out wonderfully for you. GEM deserves the "must-have" status that you made it into.
Wow how sad to see you go for the time being, LuciferHawk. W/out GEM and your amazing work on this enhancement for R2, it wouldn't even be on my computer for long term lol Between Radious and you, Lucifer, it's made it so fun.
My hats off to you Sir.. Thanks for giving us gamers such a fantastic tool to use to really enjoy our historical based game and really enjoy tweaking our visuals to really enjoy the Empire we grow and enjoy.

For some reason the pre-sets that come with the mod don't work, the game gives me a black screen on load, however the default and S.V.K. GEM 5.4 work no problems, are the pre-sets out of date?
