Icon1 Pack File Manager (quick hack)

Pack File Manager (quick semi-working version)

Does what it says on the tin, a PFM for Rome 2. All be it not a perfect one.

    What it DOES do:
-It opens and extracts perfectly most of the pack files
-It can edit and replace files within the original pack files

    What it does NOT do:
-Open some pack files for a reason I cannot be bothered to work out, example: music.packFIXED
-Allow access to the db, this will require substantial work from someone and won't be available for a while, I won't be doing it that's for sure
-Creating new packs sometimes makes packs that don't crash the game, yet for some reason sometimes don't take effect either..

So basically look at this like a file viewer and extractor more than anything... preparing you for when someone like Taw or Daniu fix their stuff *cough* sometime very soon! *cough*

P.S I won't be following up on this any further even if it doesn't do something you want, it does exactly what I need it to which is give me access to the games scripting and allow me to edit it. Sorry..

    Technical information:
    Pack header is almost identical
Its now 28 bytes long, with the PFH4 prefix
4 byte - Identifier (PFH4), 4 byte int - pack type, 4 byte int - version, 4 byte int - replaced Pack Filename Length, 4 byte int - file count, 4 byte int - index Size, 4 byte unknown

    EDIT:
VERSION 2 UPLOADED - CAN OPEN ALL PACKS INCLUDING MUSIC PACKS
    Attached Files Attached Files

You have to have Shogun 2 installed in order to use it?
I tried to point it to my Rome 2 installation but that didn't work.

It's based on the Shogun 2 PFM code, so maybe, but I doubt it. Depends on how Daniu made the Shogun 2 PFM work tbh. It the Shogun2 PFM with small changes to read the new pack file headers.

As for Radious.. I have no idea, it works fine for me. I can't fix what's not broke.

Do we have to extract these files to the Rome II installation folder? I was receiving the same error as Radious.

I have this tool open but I am unable to open any of the "db" objects. More specifically I am trying to edit unit stats and sizes. Is this feature not available in this version of the workaround?

Just a few quick observations I have made about the campaign map. 1) Sure as hell won't be doing anything with it without support from official tools, while some data is still structured in a similar fashion, most is not, pathfinding for example introduces a whole new file format. 2) Even with official tools it looks like modding the campaign map will be monumental, first obseveration was tiles! Tiles everywhere!!!! Trying to mod the campaign maps while maintaining suitable links to the battle maps tiles does not look like fun.

You have to create dumby shogun 2 data directory for it to work or have shogun 2 installed. For me I had to mkdir "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2\data". NOTE:this only works if your steam directory is the same as mine.

The other problem is the schema file is blank for RTW2. I've rename the shogun scheme file from PFM 2.4.1 to schema_RTW2.xml. About half the files are black now, but looking through it doesnt seem to be correctly working, oh well. The big problem is unit_stats_land_table is now unit_lands_table, it seems they took out the word stats from the lot of table names, so I tried to rename the table in the xml to unit_lands_table, but no workie.

Well multiple turns per year works, I got 2 turns per year running with proper character aging, no seasons though... however that might be possible still as I see there still are some remnant files about, such as spring, summer, autumn and winter lighting files. Likely won't know more until the db tables can be opened.

Think we have to go through the db to remove the puffs of dust on impact?
    I found projectile_impact_tables there.

Don't use the db for now, it won't work.

Particle effects can be editted in the human readable XML's in data_rome2.pack/vfx/impact

Added new V2 version that can open all pack files, including music packs. Not that there is anything interesting in them.
