Thread: Failed to find steam after clean 2.6 install

Default Failed to find steam after clean 2.6 install

    Hey guys.

    Lovin' your work.

Now, downloaded the 2.6 patch. Installed it and havin' the "Failed to find steam" problem again no matter what I do.

I then tried a clean install and see there, same problem.

    Any suggestions?

edit: I've followed the instructions for steam users of course. I've been playin' RS II 2.5 for quiet a while, so I have no idea why it starts bugging again. Gonna try a simple restart and maybe another re-install.

Could you please have a look at the instructions posted in the first post of the release thread? I've just updated it.
Basically, copy the steam.dll file from the steam folder to the RTW folder.

I've put the steam.dll into the rome folder and that clears up the failed to find steam error... but instead I get a new one.

    "Problem checking steam application."

I'm not exactly sure why some people have this issue and not others.
Could you please tell me where your RS folder is, what OS are you using (ie windows 7 64-bit), and which games you have (gold, or gold + alexander)?

In the meantime, you should start the mod manually, there's a guide out there explaining how to do it.

I'm having the same issue, I can launch the game with the mod through steam but it doesnt let me play a campaign, it only has the historical and custom battle options, nothing else

FIX FOUND FOR "Problem checking steam application" ERROR!

When it asks you for your steam name, you need to enter your real steam name, for me, it was the email I use for steam, not the one I have displaying as my name, now, my steam account is old as it gets so they may have done away with using the email at some point, but I never did go much into the steam details, and only changed my steam name to a name and not my email kinda recently, in the last few years, so what your real steam name is, I cant say but at one point the directory structure of steam itself used this email/name, it doesnt now... but maybe that will be a clue for ya, I dont know, its what kinda clicked in and made me try what I did.

Edit: It appears your steam login is what youre lookin for thanks Solar

    Ah, thanks EhJay.

I managed to work around it myself somehow, I think by mod foldering it.

i am afraid changing to the logging name instead of profile name in steam didnt fix the error for me. Any link for another way of launching 2.6 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I solved the problem by mod foldering the campaign i would like to play. And it works as a charm. Thanks guys for a great mod.

I was getting the "Failed to find steam" error too, moved the steam.dll and now I'm getting "Problem checking steam application" as above.
I'm running win 7 64bit and my steam folder is under C: because I was tired of permission issues (even though I don't use uac) so it's "C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold".
Is there a way to change where the mod is looking for steam.exe or whatever? is it in the .bat or .ini?

Where and how do I change my login name to my real Steam name?

    I don't understand.
