So it begins... My first impression is that AI behavior towards peace treaty is quite dumb.
The hre is just one big slugfest, with a bunch of one province minors attacking each other almost immediately.
Streaming gameplay of myself as France at the moment if anyone is interested in watching mediocre fumbling of the mechanics.

So playing Portugal and finish first 100 years, I pretty much just focus on colonization of South America and ignore rest of world. After 100 years then I notice:
1. My income is ridiculous high.
2. France got rape by everyone (I actually saw Dauphin overran France with Spain and Austria).
3. Spain and Austria become monsters with no hope to deal with.
4. Nobody try to colonize New World besides me.
5. On the other side Muscovy becomes the monster of East of its own, although I feel soon Sweden would kick its ass.
6. After 100 years I still don't know how trade works.
7. Byzantium still exists and I feel Austria is going to kick Ottoman's ass soon.
I understand the new trade system, but I still like the old one better. So much easier to understand, and it could evolve over time. With the new one it just feels like people just keep stealing my money.
I love how the seasons change over time, well done Paradox.
I WON THIS BATTLE!
Maybe not, because trade can only move in one direction, and I'm pretty sure Ragusa is downstream form you.
Solution...................own all of your trading areas? So you're saying I need to eat Ragusa............................
I booted it up just to gaze at the maps and menus for half an hour.
Damn my gaming backlog and workhours, I won't eb able to seriously play it for another week
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
Well a friend just gifted me eu4 as a return for a favor.
Is the chinese system or shogun system different then divine wind or are they the same. I may play japan as my first play through.
They're different. My game as France may have just ended within the first 150 years. Critical mass was achieved after Burgundy died, not even the Austrian/Ottoman (yes that actually happened) alliance was able to stop me. And I noticed that I wasn't able to make HRE demands of Austria in the peace deal. Is it handled another way or were they not the emperor when I peaced them?

It seems that currently East European and Ottoman cultural group would not have problem of tech lagging even without westernization, unlike in EU3. With Innovation idea + University both can research with 110 ~ 115 efficiency which actually does not make much difference. The only good thing about westernization for those two tech groups now would be changing unit type, although in reality East European units are not too bad after 1650.
Achieved independence for Sweden! Not as easy as it sounds. Admittedly I actually failed horribly first time
But this time (in a new game) I gave it a bit more thought and decided to strike carefully. My chance came when Denmark and Norway just completed a different war in the Baltic, thus their troops were all away from home and slightly exhausted. But I say the key to winning against Denmark and Norway, is having the larger fleet. Because Denmark and Norway can easily out number you if you don't split them up at the crossings. So all you have to do is manage your fleet force limits, your income and make sure your navy is bigger. I removed the cogs that I never used for more galleys and had lots of time to prepare. In fact, If I had know how important the fleet was to winning the war, I could have started the war much earlier. However having the enemy armies away helped a lot. Norway for example was fielding 6-7k troops most of the time.
Finishing the colonisation in Scandinavia is a big priority as well, because it sucks away around 2 ducats(?) per month. I recommend you finish that first before fighting.
This was taken half way through the war, but as you can see the enemy cannot reach me because of my fleets, so I was free to occupy all the land in Scandinavia.
So yeah, it was fun.
Playing France atm, so far I have a standing army of 60k and my man power pool is about 105k. I have a decent income as well making about 36.00 ducats even with my army upkeep, the only thing I don't have is a navy just a few small ships to boost trade income.
