Thread: Grey puffs from projectile hits

Default Grey puffs from projectile hits

"...I'm trying Ringo, I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd"

I'm trying to like this game having waited so long for it. Its not any one big problem, its just many little ones like this.

These things look ridiculous. Even if they were red they would look bad. If they are trying to reduce cpu/memory by making them fuzzy, just dont add them. Agree?

EDIT - MOD removes them -Radious No Dust Mod -
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...s-No-Dust-Mod-!!!!

I will try to mod this and the tracers out of the game.

Agreed. I honestly don't know why the puffs of smoke were added..

Maybe someone can mod it to look like blood.

    Yep agree.

I mentionned it on the thread that talks about the new video, and nobody react or mention it later.

this should be remove by CA,I mean it serves no real purposes, there are already arrow trails to show you units under fire, and it looks terrible in my opinion.

first I thought it was some kind of dust XD

If CA don't do it,well a mod would be cool but really,I'm laughing at the idea of the employee who first thought of this feature. He goes to a rome II reunion and says "I have an idea, let's put some grey clouds to every unit that get hurt by a projectile",and everybody say "Yeah that's brilliant,we love grey puffs"

It doesn't really cater to the overall battle visuals, i have to agree with that. Though it's just a small issue, i hope that modders or CA itself will solve it^^

i think the puffs will be even bigger if you hit some unwashed barbarians

These really don't make any sense. It's probably put in there as yet another "visual cue" that your units are being hit by missiles but seriously, CA. Most of your players are not blind, deaf, and dumb. These aren't the worst looking "visual effects" in the game but they are just unnecessary and unsightly.

The gameplay bonus doesn't even come close to making up for the aesthetic loss. Hopefully a modder can very quickly remove the puffs.

It looks awful i really don't know what they are doing as even if it was a placeholder for blood it would still be way too much blood.Maybe this is why there is massive frame skipping in the battle with such a tiny amount of men.And then the golden glow debuffs, the heavenly glow coming down on unit banners, arrow tracers, huge banners and men with red circles around thier feet.

Why can they not just show off a battle like they do in the trailers with the minimal UI? Pretty much 90% of the above is not even needed.I play online, well i used too with all of the markers and hud disabled and i never had a problem telling which men are mine or who is routing. Why not just be smart, disable it so people have nothing to complain about and leave it as a option for colorblind users or grandpa's?

A average player with an average attention span and IQ can play the game with just his unit icons and radar.Everything else is a drain on computer resources, internet resources and crucially is covering up graphical details already being rendered in the case of the ultra tall unit cards. It makes literally no sense!

I'm really hoping this is just a placeholder. Obviously we wont have a blood pack on day one, but i really hope this isn't the default texture going forward...

I mean I don't think they look good but they had large puffs in shogun 2 with arrows. I just think because there using javelins they just made the puffs better. I mean its not a huge deal but it would look better with them gone.

Yeah only the TWC crazies are acting like this is a big deal but it's just another puzzling decision. It's like they sat down and had a meeting early on about making the game more accessible and they ended up going a bit overboard.

While everyone else has been complaining and riding up CA's ass in the battlefield that is the weeks before release day, I, on the other hand, have remained optimistic and just trusted that CA would make the right decisions. I've never complained about much and I always stick up for CA...

...But yeah, even I find these to be ridiculous. Please get rid of them CA. Your game is supposed to be made for people 16 and older, we don't need your damn smoke clouds to see that we're getting hit, we're not dumb. They completely ruin the cinematic effect of the Romans throwing their pilum before a charge.

It's this whole business that CA keeps giving us: "The players needs visual cues!!!11!!! We need to make everything super obvious because players have no idea what's going on if we don't paint it in big red letters all over the screen!"

Honestly, I had'nt noticed them yet. Thanks, now I'll have to pay attention to it and notice it doesn't quite fit. (<- that's a seriously messed up smiley btw)

In the ever exalted Medieval II: Total War there are ugly red puffs much like these for when units are hit by arrows and such :3

It makes more sense if it's blood, and I assume it is a placeholder for this. However, as Jedi said, even if that is the case it's still a bit over the top. Admittedly though, in the grand scheme of things it's quite minor.

You see what i find interesting is that this isnt the first instance of this. This goes back to Barbarian Invasion expansion for rome I when they went full on sparklez mode.We hated it,we complained and now we have come full circle again without being listened too.I just find it really maddening that no matter how loud you shout or how nice you ask they just never seem to listen to the fanbase on UI issues and what age range the game is designed for.And people troll me for my sarcastic drinks and battles post

Lusted makes quite a few posts on other pendatic issues i just wish for once he as an adult himself would explain why we are having these gimmicky visual cues rammed down our throats and why year by year they seem to get worse as i think i am the only person i have saw so far on this forum talk about the glow from heaven, the glow of light that comes down on unit banners and unit when debuffed

I'm surprised that so many people just don't get it!!
The dirt/mud on the shields is blood. the puffs of smoke on arrow impacts is blood. They just haven't made them red yet due to Germany. It's like people haven't played medieval 2 or something!
