Thread: Unique Cities

  1. #1

    Default Unique Cities

We know quite a bit about the factions and their units. But what about the generic and unique cities? Will the generic ones reflect basic geography, such as being on a coastline, or having a river flow through it? That would be better than fighting in a coastal city, which in the battle map, appears to be land locked. How many architectural types will their be? What cities will be unique? I believe the unique cities should be as follows: Rome, Carthage, Athens, Alexandria, Jerusalem, Pergemum, Susa, Alesia, Numantia, and Maiden Castle. What do you think?

well judging by what previews CA have released, there will be unique cities... thus far though Carthage is the only such example that I am aware of... but then again I haven't been paying too close attention to the game.

Of course however, this could just be a simple historical battle and corners may be cut for some reason or another and thus the unique cities could be limited to said battles. Though I hope that this isn't the case.

    Hope this helps!

I remember reading that there will be around 30 different generic city styles possibly based on culture and location. As for unique cities... I suggest Alexandria, Carthage, Rome, Qart Hadasht, Athenai and Bibracte. More than enough even though I'd rather have all cities that can be modeled correctly. Alas, the work is too much so I wouldn't expect more than a handful of unique cities.

I would hope Athens to be unique, Parthenon and all.

I'm not really too bothered about unique cities, but agree that it would be nice if cities that are ports have a port, those on a river have a river on the city map etc. Isn't Qart Hadasht just another name for Carthage?

I think that one of the reasons that siege battles are boring for some people, is that after a while, they all look the same. It's a great idea to add some unique ones, and judging by what they have done with Carthage, they have already done a magnificent job. I know that making them must be a grueling amount of work. Out of 183 regions, i think about ten unique cities, of the most famous and important, wouldn't be too unreasonable. After they reveal some info about the campaign map, I hope they show us some of their city environments.

I do hope of moddable cities so we can get even the smaller settlements as historically accurate as possible.

The one in Spain, renamed to Carthago Nova by the romans.

All the obvious ones for the armchair historians out there. However, I just want there to be more variation in the generic battle maps and cities.

The unique cities on the game should be this ones.

    Rome *duh!*
Beneventum *Apparently CA said they were planning on make Beneventum a unique city. I think we might be getting the Phyrric Wars as a tutorial Campaign*
    Syracuse
Arretium *Or Genua, based on the map*
Alesia *Or Nemossos as it appears in the map*
    Carthago
Carthago Nova *Named Qart-Hadast in the map*
    Either Thapsus or Leptis Magna
    Pella
    Apollonia
    Athens
    Sparta
    Rhodes
    Pergamon
    Ephesus
    Alexandria
    Cyrene
    Memphis
    Jerusalem
    Sinope
    Armavir
    Niza
    Baktra

Probably the Seleucids will get the most unique cities.

Seleukia, Susa, Ecbatana, Antioch, Charax, Damascus and probably another few.

    Tyre
    Petra
    Axum

Wasn't Genua just a village at this time? Otherwise quite a good list, we could add Corinth (if it's in, but it should be), Tarentum and Amaseia (there was already a thread for it). Possibly the capital of Armenia, which one was it before Tigranocerta?

Good idea about Pyrrhos being in the tutorial, it would explain the inclusion of Epiros as well.
"Pompeius, after having finished the war against Mithridates, when he went to call at the house of Poseidonios, the famous teacher of philosophy, forbade the lictor to knock at the door, as was the usual custom, and he, to whom both the eastern and the western world had yielded submission, ordered the fasces to be lowered before the door of science."

Since the game is pretty much locked down, (only three months left) I think that is a brilliant idea.

I love unique settlements, hopefully we will see at least 10-15 unique settlements. I imagine the major cities like Rome, Carthage, Athens, and Alexandria will have a unique scene. Also it was confirmed that some of the unique battlefields like Teutoburg forest will have unique tiles if you fight a battle in that location. Hopefully we will see a unique tile for Thermopylae since there was a battle fought there in 191 BC. I'm so excited to see some of the unique settlements and tiles, the return of unique tiles is huge and I'm surprised there hasn't been a topic about that yet.
