Thread: Thinking of getting M2 for Third Age, how good is it?

Some units/factions tend to have more stamina than others. Also being in combat tires your troops. Its definitely worth paying attention to.

As for income, there are some good guides around the forums if you search. General consensus is:

    1) Low tax rates everywhere. Yes, this is counter intuitive, but it helps your population grow quicker, allowing you to upgrade cities sooner and thereby gain access to higher level economic buildings. It means your income suffers at the start, but means your income should be better later when you need it more.

    2) Focus on building economic buildings first. First level of roads are a must (also helps units move around quicker) and then other farming buildings and stuff.

As for not seeing things on the map, take a general, and have him walk around your territory building watchtowers.

Ye I know about that lol, I found out you can bind your keys in settings.

I am Silian Elves but I am not really sure what to do, for some reason everytime I leave one of the settlements the populaces like to revolt. I have built a few buildings but not really sure how to improve income substantially. I think i have made a trade agreement with Dale and the dwarves (how long do they last) and took a rebel town. But I am not sure where my enemies are as I can hardly see anything on the map.
Its not like S2TW where most of the time, you can leave your main city without garrison. In M2TW, you should at least have a general, preferably one with high "Chivalry" (BUT in the case of TATW it's called "Respect"). And also, no spawning garrisons for the player, only some selected cities of the AI has it.

Economically, I think M2TW usually have less "income spike"(); you need to micromanage more than what you were used to in S2, its NOT "+1300 to industries bla bla..." like in Shogun 2.

In the long run, lowering the tax of a city is usually feasible since it increases population which means it increases the people you tax... slowly. You can preferably raise taxes if you really need more money but be wary of the negative effects on public order and population. Just read the effects of the buildings by right-clicking on its image/icon and read its effects, the building's effects aren't in the tooltip like in S2.

About the map, well I suggest pressing ~ while on the campaign map then type "toggle_fow" w/out the quotes. The fog of war will disappear then. You can type it again to make the fog of war reappear. This is JUST to make you familiar with the map, don't use it everytime because it can be a gamebreaker if you abused it, you don't wanna get corrupted with that power would you?

And also, about what you said that in S2 running makes no difference.. I read somwhere in the forums that its a bug and tiredness doesn't affect the units in Shogun 2. In M2TW, the condition of the units is crucial, don't get them running everywhere. And check the unit's condition by hovering the cursor to your unit/unit card. "Eager", "Warmed up" and "Fresh" is good, while "Shaken" and "Very Tired", "Exhausted" will get your units routing in no time.

    Good luck playing!

If I make a trade agreement with another faction, does that mean we trade together (both ways?). Does that give me an increase in income?

Also is it better to specialise my provinces? So make one military, others economic?

factions both trade with each other
only if you are in range i.e they have a neighbouring province or you can get a sea lane to them from a port
yes you get money from it

depends on your playstyle.. but you will end up building everything soon enough .. the growth in this game is slow on purpose

    yes, it's both ways.

you already have the provinces specialized : some are towns/cities and some are castles. By definition, castles are the places where the military recruitment takes place and towns are the places where the income comes from. but this doesn't mean that you can't recruit in cities. overall, you can safely say that you do need to specialise a bit : a 3-tier barracks is better than 3 1-tier barracks.

Again thanks for all the help, this mod is amazing.

One more problem lol, I conquered a rebel town but my men cant leave it for some reason, I think it might be something to do with the Rohan army, who are neutra,l next to me and they havent moved after three turns.

How do I know if I border a province with say Dale, the border lines arent very clear on vanilla.

Last thing why cant I build an archery range in my capital but I can in another large city?

Should I now post in the questions and answers thread now that I have got the game?

if you highlight your army your enemies/neutrals armies around you have a zone of control that you can't pass through in one turn this is a series of red circles at the end of your green movement range , afaik no army can completely block your movement on the map and also you can move through the zone of control not all in the same turn though

what cities are we talking about here? (Dale can't build it at the start ), does your capital have the right level i.e large town etc ? and do you have the building below archery range , i thinks its the bowyer?

According to steam I've got 882 hours played, which is about 37 days. So yeah, I'd say its totally worth it

TATW is AWESOMETACULAR. Seriously, it feels like a whole separate game from M2TW, that's how well-made this mod is. Give it a whirl, you will not regret the decision.

I've played this mod before and its very good, I also want to play that stainless steel, and the game of thrones mod.
Sadly, I'm not sure if I can have them all installed. Will they cause problems with having them all installed?

Do it! SS is super fun. I can't play vannilla m2tw any more cause of it.
It's not a question of where it grips it. It's a simple questions of weight ratios; a five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

Although this has probably been answered i'd just like to say i was in the same boat as you. I originally bought Medieval just to play third age and i can say one of the best buys i've done.

Agreed, SS improves just about every aspect of the vanilla game.
