I have finally managed to add a new province. It just takes some practice, and about an hour or two. I haven't tried to create borders or a trade route yet. All the credit goes to Uanime5, and his tutorial.

Is it possible to mod the map for mods like the sekigahara campaign?
When I open the raw file, 3DS shows following messages:
Will it cause problems?
when export the cs2 files, should I leave the following settings as default?
Sorry for my poor English, it isn't my native language

I find that all field battles which happened in the new region have wrong titles, and reinforcement troops shows up in wrong place, it seems like something should be added to battleterrain\templates\ folder in the terrain.pack.
Just a quick post to say two things.
1) I've found another table that groups all the regions into trade blocks. Unsure what effect it has on trade but it probably need to be edited.
2) To point out that incorrect rigid_spilne files (used for region borders) not only prevent a campaign loading but can prevent a startpos being correctly made. This can occur even if they're not in the mod pack as long as they're in the campaign_map folder.
Update 3/8/2013: figured out how to add new roads.

Did anyone tried to change the whole map?
Question about the naming conventions. Is the stringing together of id's to form new ones, with ":" connecting them, (as in "jap_shogun:Hyuka:jap_hyuka:2130427281")obligatory or is it just a convenient way of creating unique IDs?

It could be just a non-functional naming convention, with the sole purpose that someone reading the table does not have to go through the entire tree of related databases to figure out what is related to what. At a glance I don't see why any alphanumerical code couldn't be used.
Another thing I was curious about is the way crossings and junctions are made. What do you think the logic behind this is? Why could you not just attach a new road directly to an existing one? I can imagine it would be required to split the road you attach to, in order to give the 3 lines coming together a different ID. But the need for all the extra connecting lines escapes me. Or is it just a matter of aesthetics?

You can attach one road to another, it's the trade routes that require 3 lines coming together. I think this might have something to do with allowing trade to flow in multiple directions. Basically the trade route is split into two route which go to different settlements.
Though it may also have an aesthetic purpose, such as making it easier for the little people on the campaign map that run along the trade route (the curves mean they turn gently, rather than at a 90 degree angle).

Let's say, If I want to modify your existing mod, by simply erasing some of your small Island Provinces, or combining it with other mods...Be done by solely esf and db table modding...without modding through 3ds Max...
Sure, some regional and factional editing must be done, but not as far into 3ds Max editing...Is it possible?
While it is possible it won't be easy. Though you can remove factions by editing the esf files it is almost impossible to add or remove regions this way. The main file you'll have problems with is the pathfinding.esf because the code in each cell is dependent on the code in the cell before it, so you'll need to edit every cell after the first cell you modify. Since no one knows how to calculate the new entry for these cells this makes it almost impossible to edit this file. That's why no one could mod ETW, NTW, or TWS2 until the official tools were released.

I find that the Land_Trade_Routes.cs2 [none] layers can be used to create trade routes from one settlement to another settlement through direct links(export it with the "Land_Trade_Routes.cs2 [Working]" layer). The only difference is those trade routes don't have the little people running around.
And I have another problem need help. When process pathfinding, I get the following error message:
Can't sure what's wrong
Problem solved by reorganize several jointed sea trade routes.
So, I want to reduce the amount of regions for testing purposes. Which things could make trouble?
I assume settlements, slots ports, etc should be deleted
Characters in settlements, land units
Can I leave factions in the startpos without them having any region, or do i have to delete them too?
Are you planning to reduce the number of regions by removing these regions or by turning them into regions that don't contain anything? The latter can be accomplished by assigning regions in the startpos_regions to another campaign, the former requires remaking the map.
If you assign a faction to another campaign in the starpos_factions it will automatically ignore all the information about this faction, so you don't need to delete their characters or armies. However you do need to remove this faction from the diplomacy.
Another file I recommend you edit is the startpos_victory_conditions as it mentions several regions.
I haven't tested what will happen if you have a faction in the startpos that doesn't have a region but it may cause a crash.

That's great to hear! Congratulationsuanime5.
I'm really happy to see new regions on TW games again
