Ive heard about this and why its a bad idea to level up more then that so i have two questions. 1, Is there anyway to prevent that? and two does it matter for companions?

As far as I know, the level will go to crazy numbers only if you cheat it forward from 62.

Yeah, if you level up normally, there shouldn't be any problems. Only when use cheats to level up, then you'll have issues.

It tends to get repetitive after a point of time, i do not level up after a certain level as it keeps things interesting.

Aside from cheating, it is extremely difficult to get to that level. Usually you have completed the game by the time you have killed that many people. Or though, never do a Bandit Camp or other npc camp at taht level, since it has a formula that adds 1-2 enemies there every level, so you could be facing 70+ guys with your men. It is far from difficult, but extremely tedious.
