    Default Wargame: AirLand Battle

    JETS!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Just announced about 20 minutes ago.

I'm saying it now. CA needs to buy into IrisZoom and give us a proper decent 18th-19th century strategy game. The map in the video is huge.

    Best article I could find:

Really excited about the urban stuff and 150 planes!

And it will primarily take place in Scandinavia.

Yes. And on the other hand no, because that would have made it dangerously similar to World in Conflict.

I hope this update comes with a Total War style pause button, because a game that looks this good should allow you to pause and admire the view. Whenever I play the game, I'm zoomed out and clicking like a frantic bastard when I should be admiring the masterful beauty of my awesome Challenger tanks mullering Russians.

I'm more impressed with the terrain. The engine is solid, this is the third game, I'm not scared about the actual gameplay at all, but the maps in WEE are terrible.

    This one looks very good.

WEE had a chance to be far better than WIC, actually it is better. Earnable/callable support is dumb, let me deploy it so I know to use it when I need it.

I prefer Eugen's approach to that of Massive.

Looks good but I haven't even beaten the first. Difficult but I miss that in games.

So this is a sequel or a expansion?

Also am I alone in that I would rather have had RUSE 2?

No, reliefs were a giant thing missing in Wargame. Now both jets and reliefs will be added making this RTS perfect on every side.

Worried about the price though...I hope some -20% sales for those owning WEE.

I guess I might look into this, WEE felt to dull and boring without close air support (SERIOUSLY!! IT'S THE MOTHER ING COLD WAR GONE HOT! WHERE'S THE AIR SUPPORT????). Maybe now it might be half as good as WiC.

WIC was too small scale for me and it was arcadey as . Great fun game, but let's be honest, it is very old now and WEE far surpasses it in capability. Ideally we get some naval warfare out of this when looking long-term.

The engine just has so many possibilities.

And man it would be nice to see Empire 2 on something like IRISzoom.

Nah I still love WIC the most, though I shall save the ultimate verdict until I play this game with air support. Some naval warfare would be cool as well, some all naval battles and then some maps where you could have off shore support.

    This:
“The idea is to have an RTS – it’s not a simulation – an RTS that is… we wanted something very different where it is about thinking, it’s about taking a decision. It’s not an “action RTS,” Le Dressay explained. “A lot of our players say there is a problem with the game: I should not be fast. There is a risk that someone beats me because he plays faster than me? It’s not about this, it’s about thinking, knowing the units, and having an RTS that is extremely rich in terms of mechanics.” The co-founder said that Wargame AirLand Battle is made for people “who’d like to have something of a different flavor” [than the usual rock-paper-scissors mechanics based micromanagement experiences.]
    Ooh
Le Dressay also demoed the inclusion of clarity when it comes to the ability of units to destroy other units. For example: placing a Challenger tank in the open, Le Dressay had a T34, from a hedgerow, attack the Challenger. Because of the poor turret on the T34, at such a long range, the T34 didn’t have a chance to hit. Moving on, we learned that even if the tank did hit (based on chance, as everything is variable) the AP round lost effectiveness about 60% of the distance away from the Challenger tank. This means that the authenticity of the units, position, placement, and the rounds being used is as realistic as could be, despite the title not being “a simulation”.

Hell yes!!! I recently picked up Wargame: European Escalation on Steam for like 8 dollars the other day and have been blown away. The sheer variety of units and hence play styles based on those units is mind boggling! Challenger tanks are a NATO players best friend though and can really wreck some . This game will definitely be a must buy for me.

Wow, 150 km2 is a ridiculously huge map, in an awesome way. Hopefully this will translate into a bewildering number of different tactics and strategies for the player to utilize. All too often in W:EE, at least as far as the single player is concerned, I feel like there is really only 1 or 2 ways to approach any mission. Hopefully, now the player will be given much more freedom when it comes to devising and implementing his own strategy.

You only get like 9 airplanes total, and apparently making 2 passes is a sure way to lose a plane. I'm very much interested in the "National" decks. If you go with a deck that is just one nation's units you get bonuses. Should make some very interesting MP games where different nations will really tailor themselves to fill specific roles.

Basically US and USSR will not be getting hefty bonuses since they have complete combined militaries, but we could see something like the French getting big bonuses for light infantry.

I think the USMC may be making an appearance..........................

US Navy air looks confirmed though.

Can't wait to send this bad boy screaming over the tree tops at an armored column with cluster munitions.

    Also the nations are:
    USA
    France
    UK
    FRG
    Canada
    Denmark
    Norway

    USSR
    GDR
    Poland
    Czechoslovakia

Sweden is neutral but will most likely align with NATO

It would appear to be just a shot showing all of the aircraft in the game. Anyone want to take the time to name them all?

There are 150 planes in the game, but several of those will be variants. And the US has the F117!
