We are all waiting for the release date to be revealed. Some of us need to quit our jobs and dump our girlfriends. Others need to survive the cancer just long enough to play the next iteration of the best games in the world.Whatever your reason there are a few factors we need to think about before we start making our bets.
- Current stage of development
- Work pace and experience
- Certification
- Strategic launch
Allright so.Current stage of development
Based on the "FreeDLC" would suggest that the game has entered Beta. From previously being in Alpha that is a pretty big step. Beta usually means that the game is being "tested" and tweaked, the time for major changes or feature implementation has passed. A Beta can stretch for months and even years, but! i cannot remember a total war game being in beta for over a year. So i would expect it if this assumption is correct that the game will be out in less than six months.
Work pace and experience
The work pace seems pretty standard. From just pure speculation i don't believe that Creative assembly goes into "Crunch" which is a period of increased hours and sweating to meet a deadline(Launch date). If they did they would work faster and the game would be out faster but it might come at the cost of the overall product. Experience is a valuable thing. Creative assembly has Experience by the buckets. Some of those geezers have been with the company since FiFa international soccer. But more importantly are that they have been making new Total war games for 13 years now. The code is getting trickier the graphics better. But overall the bugs are decreasing units run smoother and smoother. Animations look better and better. So they are getting more efficient in delivering next gen triple A games. This will also cut down on the Beta as they are getting better at avoiding the creation of the bugs and becoming more efficient with the tools to rectify them.
Certification
Most games go through Certification. Certification for steam, Certification for windows. I'm unsure which Certification CA needs or how long they take to complete. But what i do know is that once the game is done it has to be certified before it is being launched we might be talking about a week to a month.
Strategic launch
Capitalism! Trickle down economics! and all that other nonsense old people of today believe in as they based our society around it. Creative assembly creates the game. They are proud of it and they want to share the game with as many people as possible as fast as possible, and gain enough resources to continue their pursuit of the Ultimate game ever(Getting closer and closer guys). SEGA have invested a lot of money into Creative assembly. And as Okitane Usui stares out from his Megacorp building in southern Edo(I mean tokyo)with a phone in his hand. He calls Jürgen Post of the SEGA EU division and say... Where is my money? All jokes aside CA is pretty independent and appears to have a very good relationship with SEGA .
So the game needs to released at a time where competition is scarce and the fields are bountiful with customers. Luckilly for Creative assembly they lack both competition and an effective release date. There is no 11-11-11 for CA. But do expect an authum launch where people start heading indoors. And lets not forget Total war games sells forever.
