    Default Promotions & Decorations (ProDeco)

    Introduction
    Promotions & Decorations (ProDeco) is a Roman career system (Cursus Honorum) feature in TFT. It was introduced as an add-on to v1.7.5 in 2005 and included in the v1.8.6 release. ProDeco was the first Roman career system available in RTW, the feature was also provided as a Mod Component (ProDeco Lite) and is currently used by three other major Mods (linkies).

    I'm currently redesigning this feature as part of the initiative to port TFT over to M2TW, so would be very interested in feedback from current and old TFT players.

    Please note that this feature is not related to the other popular Roman career system used in many mods. The main difference is that ProDeco is based on traits and achievements, the other career system is a more correct Cursus Honorum as it's based on time served in different roles. Serving time is easy, aquiring the right education and experience is difficult and TFT is designed to be hard as nails!

    ProDeco2 Scope
    - it does not make sense to have Imperial ranks in the Republican period, the promotion requirements are too tough and the feature needs to be more transparent.
    - ProDeco2 will be aimed at TFT only, but the code will be prepared for other time periods incl. medieval.
    - complexity will be reduced significantly, both in game play and coding
    - new exciting features

    Feature Overview:
    Original announcement: http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showth...l=1#post930739

    The "Promotions" feature introduces "Ranks" for each general as well as specific career paths based on the social class of the family member. The purpose of this is to make the competency levels of you generals a very important factor to consider in your campaigns.

    The "Decorations" feature is just something else to do while waiting for BI to come out, however, it is a promotion requirements for promotion "through the ranks" so it should add a little flavour to your game.

    The current scope of this feature is as follows:
    - 16 new ranks and 4 Social Classes
    - Tour-of-Duty "counter"
    - 39 new trait levels each with a unique historic description
    - 100+ new triggers

    Documentation
    Our documentation skills on the TFT Mod Team had room for improvement, so I'm afraid that the Quick Reference Guide (including career charts, promotion reqs etc) has gone AWOL

    Default Promotions & Decorations (ProDeco) Quick Reference Guide

    Draft Quick Reference Guide for ProDeco v1 in TFT v1.9.2

    Social Classes:
    Senatorial
    Equestrian
    Citizen (plebian)
    Freedmen (disabled*)

    Senatorial Ranks:
    Junior Tribune (Tribunus Militum) - S1
    Senior Tribune (Tribunus Militum) - S2
    Legate of Legion (Legatus Legionis) - S3
    General (praetorian rank) - S4
    Proconsul (praetorian rank) - S5.1
    Proconsul (consular rank) - S5.2
    Master of Horse - S6
    Dictator - S7 (Consul)

    Equestrian Ranks:
    Tribunus Cohortis ("tres militiae") - E1.1
    Praefectus Cohortis - E1.2
    Praefectus Alae (1) - E2.1
    Praefectus Alae (2) - E2.2 (fourth level of equestrian military career ("militia quarta"))
    Praefectus Legionis - E3
    Non-Achiever (2nd chance based on decorations) - ENA1

    Citizen Ranks: (Xtreme career path)
    Commander 1st Cohort (Primus Pilus) - X1
    Camp Prefect (Praefectus Castrorum) - X2
    Praefectus Legionis (acting legion commander - "agens vice legati") - X3

    Decorations:
    Corona Aurea - D1
    Corona Vallaris - D2
    Corona Muralis - D3
    Corona Obsidionalis - D4

    Guiding Notes:
    1) All command related traits has been nerfed in TFT, but they are easier to get
    2) If an equestrian or citizen is elevated to another social class they will be transferred to an equivalent rank and demoted one lvl
    3) We haven't included the "Cadet" rank prior to Tribunus Militum. A Senatorial family member with no rank, is a Cadet, taking his combat training on Campus Martius, learning oratory etc.
    4) (*) In an earlier version you started with one Freedmen (Quintus Pedius in Caesar campaign). If you could get him into the Equestrian class and promote him to Praefectus Legionis (E3) there was a special reward. We might do this again in ProDeco2 for TFT2.
    5) required military education can be obtained in Academy and above, Scholae and Camps

    Known issues:
    - inconsistency in using English/Latin rank descriptions
    - Imperial ranks in Late Republic is historically incorrect

    Default Re: Promotions & Decorations (ProDeco)

    Career Paths and Promotion Requirements

    Senatorial Career ("Cursus Honorum"):
    The Senatorial Career path is straight forward:
    Senatorial Class (no rank) -> S1 -> S2 -> S3 -> S4 -> S5.1 or S5.2 -> (S6) or (S7) -see notes

    Promotion requirements are based on a combination of the following Traits: Influence, Management, Tour-of-Duty, PoliticsSkill, NaturalMilitarySkill, GoodCommander, GoodInfantryGeneral, GoodAttacker, TacticalSkill, LogisticalSkill, FatherTrait PoliticsSkill and StrategicSkill

    Guiding Notes:
    1) A General will be promoted to Proconsul (consular or praetorian based on office held) by default after his tour of duty (TOD) as general
    2) Master of Horse is only obtainable by Anthony or the Faction Heir if Caesar holds Rome
    3) Dictator is only obtainable by Caesar when he has passed the Rubicon
    4) It's possible for an exceptional Praefectus Legionis (E3) to be promoted to General (S4) and enter Senatorial Class but it's neigh impossible.
    5) Many of the required skills can be obtained in Academy and above, Scholae and Camps. Leave your general there for a few turns and he might learn something depending on his learning aptitude.

    Example Trigger:
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    ;------------------------------------------
    Trigger legate_promotion3-9
    WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

    Condition CultureType roman
    and not IsFactionLeader
    and Trait GoodCommander >= 3
    and Trait GoodAttacker >= 2
    and Trait GoodInfantryGeneral >= 1
    and Trait TacticalSkill >= 3
    and Trait LogisticalSkill >= 2
    and Trait StrategicSkill >= 2
    and Attribute Influence >= 3
    and Attribute Management >= 2
    and Trait Promotion = 2
    and Trait SocialClass = 4
    and Trait TourOfDuty >= 4

    Affects Promotion 1 Chance 100
    Affects NewTourOfDuty 9 Chance 100

    ;PRO-70: S-2 -> S-3 - TOD 2 yrs
    Equestrian Career:
    The Equestrian Career path has two tracks: infantry and cavalry
    Auxilia Infantry: E1.1 -> E1.2 -> E3 -> (S4) (see note 4 above)
    Auxilia Cavalry: E2.1 -> E2.2 -> E3 -> (S4)

    Promotion requirements: as for Senatorial as well as FatherTrait GoodAdministrator, Good Administrator and GoodCavalryGeneral.

    Guiding Notes:
    1) It's possible for an E1.2 to change track to E2. There was more honor in being a Praefectus Alae, so easier to achieve E3 Legatus rank (this might have been the historic progression i.e. E1 leads to E2, but I couldn't find out for certain).

    Citizen Career:
    The Citizen Career path is our Xtreme path providing a good challenge
    X1 -> X2 -> x3

    Promotion requirements: all combat related traits as well as personal bravery and Decorations

    Decorations:
    Personal bravery as well as some historic requirements. Don't cheat by looking in the code

    //end guide

    Now I just need to wack it into PowerPoint one day when I'm bored.

    Default Re: Promotions & Decorations (ProDeco)

    Update:

    1) A new feature we are working on for ProDeco2 (besides the features mentioned in post #1) is to include a career for Roman noble women by using Princesses. The feature will use Aurelia (Caesar's mother) and a few of the other significant women from The Masters of Rome series as the template.

    Some Roman noble women had a significant impact on politics and administration. Marrying the daughter of an influential Senator (or maybe the Consu)l, would significantly impact the career of a young Roman nobleman.

    2) Currently the Cursus Honorum is implemented in TFT as ProDeco as well as the magistrates offices (Questor, Curule Aediele etc.). We are considering expanding ProDeco2 by including the magistrates, so we get a better overall Cursus Honorum experience for the players.

    edit: doh - we need to do this anyway as there are no magistrates in M2TW
