    OOC: really?... Really?

IC: William rolled his eyes before he understood this knight of Carlisle had not been involved in the war councils.

The Avranches group. On the flank.

William hoped one of the less senile captains would know that the archers were to be firing at the scots. Just to make sure, he shouted again.

The scots, you simpletons! Shoot the scots!

"Infantry reserve into the gap, after a archer volley into the gap. The cavalry is going to be useless, it seems."

Roger followed de Courtenay, seeing the battle and remembering why the English since the Norman invasion never relied on the peasants who made up the infantry and archers.

ooc: Yup, really For ease of use, use this following system. Scots on the hill = group A. Scots currently fighting the English left flank = group B. Scots outside Dumfries = group C.
    ic:

At that vague command, the royal archers began shooting the Scots. All of them... By some amazing fluke, exactly a third of his archers shot at group A, the other third shot at group B, and the latter third shot at group C.

67 Scots of group A fell dead from the missiles.
Of those shooting upon group B, both Scots and English were struck, leaving 30 more corpses amongst the English dead.
With group C out of range, their numbers remain the same.

ooc: Gonna need less talking to yourself, more putting those words into action. Also, swearing in a language other than English is technically censor bypassing, just a friendly warning.
    ic:

The Scots of group B continued their push. Remaining unthwarted they managed to bring down 170 of the English there.

Leaning back in his saddle, de Courtenay motioned for the recently arrived infantry to confront the Scots of group B who were now breaking through. The men rushed in but as previously mentioned they were in no condition for front line combat, they wouldn't last long unaided.

With the English left flank engaged, a horn rang from the hilltop as the Scots of group A began their advance upon the English right flank. Moments later, group C began marching to reinforce group B at the English left.

Roger nudged de Courtenay and pointed at the group from Dumfries.
Come on let's charge them, those militiamen shouldn't be able to stand up to our knights! Especially if we hit them in the flank!

de Courtenay surveyed his unoccupied men, 200 archers and 100 light cavalry. He and his cavalry had come here to deliver a message to their lord, the numbers were merely for protection in a hostile land. They could perhaps be utilised as a harrying force but those men over there seemed to be comprised entirely of spearmen... Perhaps the archers could soften them up but the Scots of group C had already made up a third of the way to their target.

We could delay them, perhaps... If you think you can be of use, take any man here that you will. I will remain with the king.

Gaspard is shot by a Scottish archer and dies, and Louis retreats from the battle, leaving the left flank without a commander.

Roger scowled at the so-called light cavalry and spat on the ground. This king was a fool to invade without a good number of knights to spearhead the battle. He made up his mind to wait until the futile slogging match of infantry was over, then return to England.

Patrick contours to fire. His arrows raining down on the Scots. However the English infantry didn't seem to be farming well the Scots numbers were vast. Patrick sees an area were the line is faltering. He charges dropping his bow and picking up a fallen spear calling. "Stand your ground men. We won't let those Scottish dogs beat is here."

The Scots of A and C were approaching fast, but buoyed by Bamburgh's new command of the English left, the Scots of group B had been surrounded and destroyed. An additional 120 English gave up their lives in the struggle but the Scots were now diminished to only two groups.

De Courtenay scratched at his stubble as he watched the rest of the Scots approach. With the small victory on the left flank, the Scots maybe outnumbered them by two or three hundred. If only the English could get together rather than spread out in small barely mobile groups, perhaps they'd be able to stand toe to toe with the approaching host and gain a better footing...

William grunted as he saw his battle lines in such a mismatched shape despite what he had ordered.

Men! I'll be damned, if you don't form into a battle line the scots will have our hides! MOVE I say!

Cantering forward, he beheads a Scot with his blade before dismounting and joining the fray, picking up a Battleaxe to use with his left while he held his sword in his right hand.

Your king still lives! To me, my English brothers! We can still fight!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
ooc: Both King William and Harald Jansson have been wounded in this fight (not seriously but they will both receive a negative modifier if used again this battle). I recommend a showdown between the two, a fight occurs, blows exchanged etc. then a separation and perhaps they can meet again this day.

The two Scottish groups collided into the English ranks, bringing all those still alive on the field into this great confrontation. The English left flank had been successfully engaged by Scottish group C and so they had broken off into their own skirmish. The main fight here and now was between the three kings where the majority of the Scottish army (group A) had charged into the English left and centre.

Group A had not been able to flank the English and carve through their right flank, though they still held the upper hand and their numerical advantage over the English was ever increasing. Spears stabbed, swords slashed and horses charged through the English, as all the while shouts erupted from the Scottish host.

    "For Alexander! For the King!"
"King Harald! King Harald and England!"

Group C had succeeded in engaging the English left but that now meant that they were outnumbered two to one and unable to receive support from their allies on the field.

William shouts a curse as he feels a spear graze his leg before felling the man. He retreated, and mounted his horse, cantering along the battle line.

WHERE ARE YOU, YOU NORSE BASTARD!

He screamed, as he scanned the battlefield for Jansson. He glanced to the left flank, and rode towards them.

CRUSH THEM! YOUR KING YET LIVES! ATTACK!

The red banner of March emerged from the host before William, mocking him by its very presence. Harald would surely be near it...

Roger watched his master Sir Tristan Lousignan fight viciously from his horse. In his initial charge he knocked several men back just with the force of his charge, he then dropped his lance and began slashing away. Roger watched with others for a time but soon the fighting was getting vicious and every man was committed to the fray.

Roger hacked and slashed his way to the knight who continued to fight. As Roger parried an attack and then slashed him across the chest he could see Tristan being overwhelmed. Tristan was pulled off of his horse to the ground. Before they could finish him off Roger made short work of the first of the two men, then kicked the second back buying Sir Lousignan some space. He helped his master to his feet.

"Thank you squire" Tristan shouted over the carnage.

    "No prob-"

But Roger was cut off as a sword went right through his master. As he fell to the ground Roger made two swings at the man which he parried, but his third was able to throw the enemy's weapon to the ground giving him a clear opening. He looked to Tristan and could see he was already dead, now Roger would just join the fray as he was in a fight for his own life...In the distance he could see the King shouting and riding bravely against the enemy.

The men at arms of March came into view. They were cutting a swathe into the English mass, all the while shouting their cries for their king as they slashed about them. They were roughly half the cavalry of the Scottish army and so any space they made was quickly swallowed up by their footmen, gaining more and more ground for the Scots.

William was sweating from both exhaustion and fear. But still he did not hesitate, and continued galloping along with his knights towards the Earl March and his Scotsmen. The traitor's head would be his; that Norse mercenary who had tried to claim his kingdom by the way of the sword.

ATTACK! FOR ENGLAND! FOR GOD AND KING WILLIAM!

His men cried, as they galloped swiftly towards the mass of Scotsmen. William hoped to catch sight of the earl of march as the Norseman waded through the English ranks.

A familiar voice came from behind the King.

    "Hullo, your Majesty."

He was increasingly finding himself outnumbered and now a space was being made around him as Harald rode up to him, bloody sword drawn.
