Would you play as a trainer, or as a Pokemon? As much as I loved the franchise back in the day, and from time to time enjoy fanmade games nowadays, I think I would have a hard time roleplaying as someone who catches animals to compete with them in glorified cockfights that are plain and simple animal abuse.
On the other hand, I would be delighted to roleplay as this sweet little fellow:

...which would result in me pretty much playing the same RP. Oh well. I'd still be up for that. I expect type effectivenesses would still apply? Such as this guy shying away from fire, being buffeted badly by winds?

Yes I loved the Gamecube remake. I wish they would make a HD remake for it

I want somebody (who knows what they're doing, mind you) to make a new game set in the same world, actually.
A re-imagining of Arcadia with current technology and such could be amazing.

Yeah I loved that little nod in Valkyria Chronicles. I would always recruit Vyse and Aika into my squad.

Haunter can possess people?! I thought its stick was sucking up peoples life force and eating theri dreams to replace them with nightmares until they die.
But if Haunter could more or less lore friendly do that, I'd be game!

It doesn't have to be lore unfriendly. You could simply be keeping your trainer asleep with hypnosis and manipulating his movements in the nightmare. See lore friendly possession.

Did either of you ever read that old pokemon manga that took things in surprisingly serious directions? I can't remember what it was called, but I remember it had a plot arc where a giant haunter called black fog was eating people's souls. I believe it ended with them launching a giant pokeball at it, and it self-destructed.

That would be the Electric Tale of Pikachu.
Another Pokemon manga that is apparently considered to be quite baller (I'm not sorry) is Pokemon Adventures. Pretty certain there was a part where an Arbok got sliced in half or something.
