Default New Teutoburg Forest walkthrough by gamespot

    http://uk.gamespot.com/total-war-rom...lWarRomeIiBatt

This is a new walkthrough that lasts ten minutes.

Awesome, don't you think? Looks so realistic and awesome, if not for the Shogun 2 horns and battle shouts. I also find the Germanic chanting stunning, not to mention extremely accurate.

    Default Teutoberg Forest Walkthrough

    Opinions?

I think it looks very promising, the animations seem fluid and the combat seems gritty. The units seems to respond well and quickly, the cavalry charges look wicked.

I love the voices too! "Jupiter gives us strength"

Also lol when he sacrificed the Auxilia.

I did see a bit of clipping on the unit models though - I'm sure that will be fine tuned.

    But it gets my;

Looks really good, though naturally ambush battles aren't the battles we're all looking forward to. Some little things here and there seemed to be alpha problems, but other than that it looked great.

My only slight problem: it seems that infantry moves way too fast.

I'm afraid you are a little late to the party, Sharpe http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...gh-by-gamespot Five minutes, to be exact.

Anyway, I also like the voices. The actors are way better than I had hoped. Awesome that they also have dialogue while in combat.

I also like the new shield lifting thing.

The environment is amazing. I just wish normal battlefields are going to be a lot like this, with very few boring prairies and no generic setups.

I like the constant voicing of the units, thought I don't know until what point it's going to be like this in the game, and where begins the scripted part.

The graphics, althought the resolution of the video was pretty crappy, seem to be stunning.

I couldn't see much of the combat animations, but I didn't like the part where the cavalry charges and show absolutely no action, like piercing the archers with the spears.... They just run over. I guess it's just placeholders, so I'm not worried much about it.

I am worried about archery. In the last part of the video, the roman units are getting heavily decimated by the archers, probably because they are getting shot from the side and the back by many archer units, but seems like the heavy armor is going to be pretty useless again vs overpowered archers? Legionaries wouldn't have to worry much about it thanks to the testudo formation, but other factions may have a lot of trouble with this if it's kept this way. Or at least that's my first impression...

I like the mechanics. Legionaries changing to normal formation from testudo when they charge, throwing pila on the run when charging, etc, makes the gameplay very fluid and fun. But still the game seems to be dragging the same old troubles when it comes to moving the units, like when you move a unit to one place, they don't turn around and hold their ground in the right way until the last man comes gets to place, allowing the enemy to charge them at the side. I know it's early in the game, but I'd be disappointed if this issue persists.

    Wow that looks absolutely amazing.

Hopefully there will be a guard mode for Romans to hold tighter formations but that is just a minor nuisance.

    Looks nice.

It seemed like the default mode of movement and attack was running/charging. I hope that won't be the case in the final release.

Looks like every other total war battle, nothing revolutionary there, just a few more toys (balls of fire). Also keep in mind that this is a historical scenario, i'm sure randomly generated maps won't be as detailed. Extremely annoyed about that fact that units refer to themselves as "melee this and that" instead of something more unit specific, i hope that is subject to change. Not entirely thrilled about the UI layout either, i can already picture myself accidentally selecting a some other unit while trying to click on order buttons, i don't use keyboard shortcuts at all.

looks nice but 2 things i realy dont like.

    - the sound and look of arrows
    - the german melee units rout very fast altghough they are fighting on their home terrain and have huge support nearby. (indication for very very quick battles)

In 8:20 I could have sworn I saw the Roman legionaries throw pila at the enemy..... and they have "pila trails" -_-

It gets better; the speed at which they threw them appeared to be instantaneous, with no attention to the laws of physics whatsoever. Please, for the love of God CA, do NOT include that in your final release. The battle looks stupendous, bar that notable exception...

Actually yes I hope the melee lasts far longer in actual battles.

    OH LAWD its soo good.

Love the fluidity in troop movement, units shouting and the whole atmosphere of the forest.
Also i like that at the end he barely got any troops left which is good because you can't win in Teutoburg, only survive

    great but two things :
1/ when the cavalry charges they don't use their weapons, it looks unrealistic (5.20)
2/When a unit is charged, the men are not ready to the shock, to the fight.

    2 problems of animations...
