Icon3 Installation of Third Age TW and its submods ( with pictures ! )

    Kind TWC community!

This is a WIP thread which will include any submod, so, if any modder wants his submod installation instructions included, please, PM me and we`ll see what can be done for your mod..

Let us start with basic things needed :

NOTE: Windows XP Users don`t need to make any security changes, or have special instructions, just check where you installed M2TW, and direct submod/TATW Installation to that folder path ( so, that means that, YOUR Destination Folder has to end with: ...\Medieval II Total War for installation of Third Age TW, and for TATW Submods, Destination Folder has to end with:
    ...\Medieval II Total War\Third_Age_3).

Windows VISTA, Windows 7, Windows 8 Users ( even STEAM Users with these operating systems )... First three steps for you to do:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
STEP 1. Edit Security for your main Medieval II Total War folder (original thread and credits go to this nice guy, SigniferOne, here ) .

Windows 8 Users, both Steam and non Steam Users!! You need to Edit Security for your main Medieval II Total War as shown here: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/take-ownership-windows-8

    NOTE for STEAM Users
: You only need to do this first step, steps 2. and 3. ( hidden files, Virtual Store.. ) are for non steam users.
NOTE !!! : You could also use this TakeOwnership.reg method, which works the same way as editing security, and, it can be done for all Windows Vista, 7 and 8 versions: LINK. Steam and Non Steam users can use it.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    STEP 2. Unhide hidden folders:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

STEP 3. Delete VirtualStore content ( Medieval II Total War folder which is present in VirtualStore ) :
NOTE! It is important for you to know the name of your Computer/Laptop, right mouse click on your Computer icon and go to Properties.. The Name of your PC is there.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

NOTE!!! If you find Sega/Medieval II Total War folder present in Users/.../VirtualStore/Program Files-Program Files(x86) folder, delete it.

Installation of Third Age TW as a base for submods ( or, just play vanilla TATW )

BOTH STEAM and NON STEAM M2TW Users !!!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Best thing to do is:

    a) open your main M2TW folder, right mouse click in the Address Bar and press: Copy address as text.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    b) And then replace the Default Installation path in ALL FOUR TATW Installers with this one you have just copied ( Copy address as text ):

just select the Default installation path, right mouse click and press PASTE to replace it with the location of YOUR main M2TW Folder .

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

NOTE: This is for non-Steam users only, for steam users check bellow..

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
You need fresh installation of Third Age TW, be sure to download all four TATW Installers ( TATW 3.0 part 1 and part 2, TATW Patch 3.1, TATW Patch 3.2 ). Don`t surf the Internet while downloading files, you can get bad download.

NOTE: All Third Age Installers have to be installed into the same main Medieval 2TW folder!
    1. Check where is your main Medieval II TW installed, this is the first thing people screw up..
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    2. Installing Third Age files: All Installers MUST BE pointed to the location of your main M2TW folder: For example if it is installed in E: Games/Sega , then the Installation path has to be E: Games/Sega/ Medieval II Total War . The main point is, the Installation path ends with ..... / Medieval II Total War !
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

This pictures shows how should Installation path look like if your Medieval II Total War is installed somewhere else..

STEAM INSTALLATION OF THIRD AGE TOTAL WAR:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    1. First thing to do for WINDOWS 7, 8 or VISTA Steam Users: edit the security of your ...\steam\steamapps\common\ Medieval 2 Total War folder as shown in previous pictures !!

    2.
Second, Destination Folder for ALL Third Age .exe Installers is: your ...\steam\steamapps\common\ Medieval 2 Total War ( so , not ...\steam\steamapps\common\ Medieval 2 Total War\ mods, nor ...\steam\steamapps\common\ Medieval 2 Total War\Third_Age_3 ... It has to have \ Medieval 2 Total War at the end as a DESTINATION FOLDER)

    3. After installing ALL Third Age files, do not rename Third_Age_3 folder located in your ...\steam\steamapps\common\ Medieval 2 Total War\ mods folder, use either one of these methods:

    Method 1)

    - Make a copy of medieval2.exe ( application) located in your main .\steam\steamapps\common\ Medieval 2 Total War folder ( the copy needs to be made inside of that same Medieval II Total War folder, and it will be named medieval2-Copy ).

    - Rename this medieval2-Copy.exe file to kingdoms ( not kingdoms.exe, just type in kingdoms without the exe extension, it will be added automatically). You will notice that you have two .exe files ( applications) in your main Medieval II TW folder: medieval2 and kingdoms

    - Start your TATW 3.2 by using Third Age.BAT ( Windows batch) file ( the one present on your desktop as a Shortcut, or, the one present in your Third_Age_ 3 folder)
    _________________________________________________________________________________________

    Method 2)

Change Third Age.BAT file present in your Third_Age_ 3 folder (right click on file, choose 'edit'): replace kingdoms.exe entry part with medieval2.exe:

    cd ..\..
    start kingdoms.exe @mods\Third_Age_3\TATW.cfg

    to

    cd ..\..
    start medieval2.exe @mods\Third_Age_3\TATW.cfg

    Save the file, and Exit.

Start your mod through regular BAT file ( the one present on your desktop as a Shortcut, or, the one present in your Third_Age_ 3 folder)

    __________________________________________________________________________________

    Method 3)

    Use Universal Batch File: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?661279

PCP INSTALLATION ( for non steam users only - currently )

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Windows 7, 8 and VISTA Users, if you edited the security of your main Medieval 2 Total War folder, then procced with the installation...

Folks, be sure to check the installation path of your Third Age TW before installing PCP, and change them during installation.

Divide and Conquer Steam + NON Steam installation

Note! You need to have a fresh, non edited Third Age 3.2 installed in order to play DaC submod.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Here is a video of how to install it ( TATW 3.2 + DaC ): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-bERU6_fCk Scroll to 0:44. This one is for M2TW steam, but it is the same principal with NON steam M2TW version, just put the location of YOUR M2TW for installing TATW ( ...\..\Medieval II Total War or whatever is your location), and later just put the location of your TATW for installing Divide and Conquer ( ...\..\Medieval II Total War\Third_Age_3 or whatever is your location )

NON STEAM Installation of TATW 3.2 + Divide and Conquer:

Reinstall/Install TATW by using these steps: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post12671569

Test does your TATW 3.2 work and can you start a campaign, and if you can, install DaC by using instructions from the pictures bellow.

STEAM Installation of TATW 3.2 + Divide and Conquer:

Install/reinstall TATW 3.2 by using these steps:

    1. Edit security for your main M2TW folder as shown above in pictures in post #1 ( steam/ .../ Medieval II Total War). NOTE! Only Windows 7, 8 and Vista Users need to do this step, Windows XP Users do not need to do it.

2.If you have some other TATW submod installed in Third_Age_3 folder, then, remove/ delete Third_Age_3 folder from your steam/../ M2TW / mods folder. After that, verify steam game cache.

    3. Install all TATW Installers by using Third Age TW Steam installation instructions, you can follow the method explained in the pictures above.

    4. For battle crashes disable daylight savings, go to your Clock ( Time and Date) >Time Zone> Change Time Zone> uncheck " Automatically adjust daylight saving setting". Apply and OK.

    5. Test can you start a campaign in TATW 3.2.. And If you can, Steam Players should just direct the DaC Installer to the location of their Third Age 3.2 folder, if it is for example : ...\steam\...\Medieval II Total War\mods\ Third_Age_3, then just use the Browse button to select this as a Destination Folder. Or, if you used some other Steam Installation method, then just use the Browse button to select the destination of your Third_Age_3 folder.

If your M2TW+Third Age TW 3.2 is NOT installed in a default location ( for example, it is installed in C: \ Medieval II Total War\mods\ Third_Age_3) then use the Browse button to change the Destination Folder.

MOS 1.6.2 STEAM and NON STEAM Installation ( the easiest method, and the one that works 100% )

You will need to have at least 12 GB of free space on your HDD, cause in this method you need to install MOS 1.6.2 in a NEW folder, and then copy paste the content into your: fresh - working - vanilla Third Age 3.2 folder.

The picture has five simple steps:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
NOTE!!! run Cleaner.bat file As an Administrator ( right mouse click on it and select Run as an Administrator ).

If it still doesn`t work, then do the following:

    - delete the "map.rwm" file in .../Medieval II Total War/mods/Third_Age_3/data/world/maps/base folder
    - delete all "strings.bin" files in .../Medieval II Total War/mods/Third_Age_3/data/text folder

FROGS 2.3 version for Third Age 3.2 Installation

Install TATW 3.2 ( all parts+patches) and check can you start a campaign. Procced with installation of FROGS..
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1) Make a NEW FOLDER on your Desktop or wherever, and name it FROGS.
Next, extract FROGS 2.0 into this FROGS folder:

on the pcp installation, I noticed there are some executable files that are not listed on your instructions and curious what is needed and what is not:
the optional update and the patch 1 hotfix were included, I suppose they are both optional, but just want to make sure and see what the benefits or problems with them are?

You obviously downloaded that Big file which I've uploaded as alternate link.. those optional ones are included in Patch 2, when I was uploading that Big file, I have included all PCP INSTALLERS which were at my system( and, I have all which were released . You only need to install the ones listed in that picture, they are the same list from PCP OP, when alreadyded updates his list, so will this thread be updated with fresh info.

OP updated with Steam installation for TATW, I have to get some info for steam installation of submods, I think it is just a matter of installing a submod anywhere outside of M2TW folder, and then just copy\pasting the whole content of submod`s folder into your RENAMED Kingdoms campaign, and overwriting everything when asked.. Don`t have experience with Steam soo...

    We`ll see. Stay tuned.

re-installing everything again, in one of the parts it says to copy paste the data folder into med2 folder, then in another part it says to copy the content inside the folder into it. Can you explain that part a bit more? I'm a little confused

if you want to copy + paste a data folder in the highlight said data folder and copy it

then highlight Third_Age_3 (1 left mouse click) right click and paste that simple

p.s the difference with taking the stuff out of the data folder is just ctrl+a then copy , and you have to highlight the data folder inside the third_age_3 folder when pasting

Edit: just to be clear if something is inside the data folder it shouldn't go into your mod folder without being in a data folder or it won't work

Virtual Store in Windows 8 should have the same file path as in Windows 7, but, if you don't edit the security for your M2 TW folder, then you didn't achieve a thing . If you are going to reinstall whole M2 TW, then I would suggest to install it into some other folder rather than the default one ( Program Files .. ).

And,disabling UAC in Windows 8 doesn't help, it is only efficient in Vista and Win 7. There is a workaround this, but the programmers are stil testing effects of potential solution. Darn Microsoft and their crappy Virtual protection for kids.

Another question Elvenkind, when doing what you tutorial says you say when running the installers it has to be C:/Desktop/GAME, it says that doesn't exists. What does exists is C:/Users/Jaxpm/Desktop/GAME
(Jaxpm is an abbreviation for my name)
