Default Turning a castle into a fortress?

    Hi All,

Does anybody know how I can turn a castle into a fortress? I've built everything I possibly can in the castle. Do i have to upgrade something? Or just wait for it to get bigger? Suggestions on doing that quickly?

Also, I'm having a CTD on all my tactical battles, does anybody know the fix for this?

    Thanks!

You need a high chivalry governor to grow cities quickly. You could also just cheat and add population to the castle manually because castle to fortress takes a while. Fortress to citadel is also impossible to do legit.

For the CTDs - install the latest Really bad AI version, you can find it in the submods section.

Fortress does need a population of 9500, if that answers your question, but you can always mouse over the pop-level in a settlement and it should show you the info as well.

And yes, the Citadel requirement is "slightly" insane, modded it a bit down for myself - else you need one hell of a governor, with like 6 chivalry (+3 growth or public health) and at least active builder. Though I dunno if -1 squalor is enough to get the population that high. Some faction get the additional ancillary (another -1 squalor) nearly by default, while in my Crusader campaign none has it so far.

The architect ancillary also helps quite a bit. -2 to squalor.

Not impossible, but insanely hard. Don't know if it is also unrealistic, but it sure isn't fun. You miss a lot of good units because by the time you reach citadel level they become obsolete.

Only 6 chivalry? I think 10 is mandatory.

Ah, I can't really remember, think my best I got was 211xx population with urban planer and ~6 chiv and no anc. Cause I wanted to enjoy the high-end units as well without going thru a lot of sh..tuff I lowered the requirement to 20000 in my games. (+ raised the upper limit of the fortress slightly)
Still requires a decent governor after 18000 but it's not insanely hard anymore. Guess 20500 would do the trick too.
