Thread: Faster turn times?

  1. #1

    Default Faster turn times?

So as my campaign goes on, the longer it takes now that the factions have more land. It takes about 5+ minutes to get passed the turn. Is there a mod that makes it faster? If I install this mod is it saved game compatible? thank you.

Nothing, except using a faster computer, will be save compatible.

Presumably you have already turned off the "watch ai movement mode".

I also notice the same thing. In vanilla MTW2, the turns fly by in a matter of seconds (with watch AI movement off) whereas in SS6.4, the turns seems to take up to 1 minute to complete, no matter what stage you're at in the campaign. I have a godly PC, so thats not an issue. Perhaps something that's getting fixed with the 6.7 release?

Well, a godly PC wont do much to help you run M2 much faster, as the Medieval 2 engine only utilizes a single core, so if you have, lets say, an 8 core CPU you might go great on games that can utilize those cores, but M2, plus the load of scripts that come with SS are going to slow you down considerably.

does this mean that 5+ minutes to get a turn pass isn't usual?
I guess I own a fast computer..lots of RAM, a highly overclocked CPU and I am running the game on a SSD, (seems to make no difference) but around turn 100, I am facing AI turn times of about 6-7 minutes. I don't see any way to reduce it. with SS 6.3 they took much less time. maybe because of BG "light".

We occasionally see someone revealing a 5 minute turn time in this forum, but no, it isn't usual.

For me it's about 1 minute for standard ss and 2 with large script mods (4 year old computer).

Read the links I posted above, they might shed some light on the subject for you. Most TW games use only one or 2 cores.

actually I did. to be honest it mess things up even more for me. first there is s.o. complaining about turn times of 1-2 minutes! then he gets asked if they really take that long. I would take turn times of about 1-2 minutes as absolutely normal so as Byg said.

everyone knows that they cannot be like vanilla where it takes 3 seconds.

so the question is what exactly does this mean? someone posted in the thread you linked that as a result of this you should prefer a high ghz cpu instead of a low ghz multi core one.
I guess this assumption is mistaken. the operating system automatically balances the load. if you've got a - let's say - 3ghz single core, I cannot see any enhancement beyond.
