Here is a list of some of his accomplishments, in bullet point format for easier perusal. I have started with the hoary antiquity of the site and gone onwards in chronological order, with commentary where appropriate or necessary:
• Promoted as Praetorian Prefect on the Hexagon - his first time on Hex!
• Took over the inactive Eagle standard and hired a new staff. - Today, the Eagle Standard is the site's flagship Total War and modding publication, and it is known across the internet as one of the best places to go for TW news.
• Upon decree by Sulla formulated a new forum structure with HorseArcher
• Worked with Justinian and together formed the first true Content Staff - A Staff that still exists and provides quality content today! This isn't all that Beli did for Content, though. Read on!
• Re-entered Hexagon and worked on managing content with Justinian - After a break, he couldn't stay away. I don't blame him.
• Wrote Previews and interviews for the ES - Not shirking his duties, he not only managed a Staff group but shared in their work, leading by example.
• Managed all modding previews implementing a bookings system on the front page. - This allows our mods and modders to benefit from more exposure and helps get the word out about the awesome work here on TWC!
• Was involved in mentoring some moderators. - Another crucial Staff group, as I'm sure you all know!
This was all in the ancient past, but Beli was to return later, for the benefit of us all:
- Was Made Content Admin and a member of Hexagon. - As a side note, some of you may recall a period when he had a light green username and 'Director of Content' badge. When the position was made, Garb, then site owner, made it clear that while it was not a bold red Hex badge all of Beli's efforts while wearing it would count towards the Divus; thus, it is being included here. Naturally, as a member of Hex with access to the information, I can confirm it.
- Re introduced the idea of official TWC content and wrote several strategy guides for NTW. - With official content written by Content TWC established itself as not just a repository for TW news, but a place where it could be created! It is thanks to Beli's heroic efforts that this is true today.
- Set out the blueprint for the new front page portal system. - The FrontPage he helped hook up above? He came back and improved on it! It's much prettier now, wouldn't you agree?
- Mediated and resolved countless internal conflicts within content staff. - As any good Hex should.
- Created the A Team in content which solidified and codified TWC Content Services to all modders. Advocated that all modders are to be treated equally within Content. - Building bridges between modders and a Staff group, Content, only served to benefit the site, and it has paid off enormously. Many modders know Content on a personal basis and we provide certain services for them; in return, we sometimes get super special secret preview material before everyone else for our publications, such as the Eagle Standard.
- Personally contacted many modding teams offering content services, handled many global announcements (With other Admin) and front page announcements before delegating the work to the A Team. - Not content to sit back and delegate, Beli took a personal interest in his projects and saw them through, going above and beyond the call of duty.
- Supported and helped the creation of the Media Team bringing together an excellent staff within the arts staff and encouraged them to start a service where TWC made trailers for modders. - Video making is one of the most sought after, and hardest to find, skills useful in mod aesthetics and promotion. Thanks to Beli, TWC, by means of Content, can provide this service and create stunning cinematics and video work for modders and the site.
- Drafted an implemented the Content Codes of Conduct and worked tirelessly to have content staff recognised as an professional staff body. - As an official Staff group, efficiency and professionalism are our watchwords! Beli helped to codify and solidify these things.
- Helped Double the size of content staff and constantly strove to give all members a chance to make TWC better. - Content is by far the largest Staff group, and we now have 130+ members, all striving to help the site and provide content to it and its modders.
- Constantly rewarded his staff with medals and promotions, firmly instilling that hard work was the key to success within the department. - Just as he helped write in the early days, he took great pains to ensure that credit was given where it was due, and this helped oil the machine that is Content, improving morale and creating an indissoluble bond between its members.
- Defended his staff both in public and in private tirelessly. Firmly disciplined his staff when the need arose.
- Hand picked many of the Publication Editors, giving them creative autonomy within the mission of content. - You can't just say, 'Member X, you are now Chief Librarian'; Beli took personal interest in all of this and it is largely due to his careful selection of people in positions of management that Content is the success that it is today. He hand-picked the team, and it shows because of how successful it is. This is a critical part of his time in Hex.
- Delegated work across the staff to prevent people from getting burnt out. - Another important aspect of his management.
- Took an interest in reviving podcasts on TWC and struck a deal with Daily and the Warcast to base on TWC. - The Warcast nets thousands of viewers and helps the site and its mods by giving them exposure. Branching out into YouTube and other media was brilliant.
- Struck a similar deal with other youtube videomakers.
- Promoted youtube and facebook as ways to get people onto TWC - More traffic, more mods, more modding, more modders, more people, more fun!
- Ran the TWC store for over a year and expanded it.
- Personally donated prizes for competitions on three seperate occasions. - This shows his community spirit as a member of Hex.
- Gave priority to marketing and offering official CA content as well as improving the relations between CA and TWC. Personally handled many of their front page announcements and/or announced updates posted on their site. - I don't think I have to explain the importance of this!
-Personally interviewed Craig Laycock in 2011.
- Hand picked his successor OmnipotentQ and trained his later successor Legio. - Having established the foundations of success and ensuring their continuity, Beli had to make sure that it would continue long after he resigned, and this is what he did. As a member of Hex he was tireless in mentoring and training his successors for positions of authority, culminating in their accession to seats in the Hexagon Council. It is something every Hex should do, and this he did with great aplomb. Belisarius has had positive impacts not just while he was Hex, but afterwards as well.
I think that ought to cover it all. Beli was one of the most dynamic and active Content Hex, and he certainly deserves the Divus for the countless hours of work he put into it in order to make it the best it could be, both under his guidance and those of his successors. His mark was both professional and personal; many institutions in Content are his, and he also solidified a bond among its members in order to facilitate their existence as an efficient Staff group to this day.
His impact was not just in Content, but it was personal and he touched countless members of Content.
This is my first time, so I hope that I've done this right.
Kisses,
