It's tricky to know what region you have. The one you already tried was the German one, right? Maybe you need the EU one or maybe even UK one.

But will it work with my German Gold Edition? And where do I have to unzip the file to, when it is a .rar file?
Just unzip it to your desktop and run the setup.exe inside it.
The EU patch doesn,t work, too. Do I have to uninstall the patch before I install another patch? And how do I do it?
Would it help to buy a new version via Steam e.g.?
Possibly. Others have reported having to resort to Steam.
It would but you'd be paying for the game twice which is a bummer.
Answer a question please. Look at the box the game came in and tell me if it has a game rating by ESRB or PEGI? Maybe your game isn't German localized and you're using the wrong patch. That has been a problem before. Good luck!

I know that I have to pay for it and it would cost me 8 € more than the Gold version i bought in store. And there´s no ESRB or PEGI, there´s just a USK icon, which is the german version of PEGI.
It's up to you. Steam more than likely will solve your problem.
But if it were me I'd uninstall the game completely and reinstall it to a custom path [E:\Games]. You can do this with the Gold discs by browsing the discs for the legacy installers that shipped with the game. The M2 installer is on Disc One and the Kingdoms installer is on Disc Two - this will allow you to get around the annoying problem with the Gold installer forcing an install on C drive. After that patch using this patch here - http://www.gamershell.com/download_24612.shtml. That international patch you used earlier looks dodgy. Good luck!

I installed Medieval and Kingdoms both manually from the setup.exe on the dvd oon my E: harddrive and downloaded the patch. Still the same problem. :/
Post your dxdiag.
How?
Click Start,
in the box above it type dxdiag <enter>,
click the "Save all info" box,
save to your desktop,
attach it to your next post or copy/paste it.
Here it is.
In Nvidia Control Panel, in the game's profile, be sure it is set for Maximum Performance.
Auto, Power Saving or anything else won't cut it.
The compatibility is "excellent". In Problems and recommended settings it says: "Turn off bloom" So what do you want me to do now?
All I know is what others with Optimus has run into, the damn Optimus can't make up its mind whether to use the integrated graphics or the dedicated one and locks up. I'm just trying to eliminate this one. So far Rome and newer it's been the same.
