Thread: General's morale boost radius

    Default General's morale boost radius

Here is a tiny idea. Barbarian generals are expected to fight in the frontline and their morale boost radius doesn't extend to men in front of them, but only to those, who are just as close to the enemy as they themselves. It is therefore best to have the general engage in melee. The strength of those barbarian generals should therefore be pretty good and the player is wise to engage only weak enemy units to ensure the longevity of his general.

On the other hand the morale boost radius of civilized generals doesn't extend to men on equal level or behind, but only to those who are in front of them, meaning it is wise to hold the general behind one's forces.

In both cases the position of your own core body of troops in relation to the enemy has to be calculated to make the general's morale radius perpendicular to that line.

Don't forget a lot of the units will have warcry which will boost each others morale on top of the generals

That's a fun idea to think about. To add to that, a barbarian general should have a smaller but stronger morale boost area, as he would mostly be fighting and not shouting encouragement and orders (so the men fighting beside him would see him fighting and gain a much higher level of morale, but the people who don't see him won't get a boost), and a Roman general, for instance, will have a bigger but slightly weaker area of morale.
