Hi.. Yes & No
Your right... but this changes unit size per-say... Not French Inf SQ size... Basically in the vanilla game, small army units are 45 men - ultra is 160... hence in forming French Inf SQ, they look right the smaller the army, ergo both AI inf & Canons who have the same effect zone, can inflict more damage if the Inf are caught in smaller SQ's... Historically it was a tactic for Cav to charge and try and force inf to SQ, (Which the AI is really good at)
While fine, the unit multiplier 2 (I like to use large armies = 360 men) this uses the same French SQ layout pattern as 45 men... making the inf Square 8 times larger than it should be (=90 guns on each face)... While a bugger, at least In a 20 unit game given the same map size there is simply more space to deliberately space large inf Sq's out.... in a 40 unit game more of a pointless excise for large armies...
In saying that... the AI has no problem in target artillery on "inf blocks" hence correcting this has a lot of AI / Player tactical merit... In say that, some nations inf Sq's are blocks... it maybe easier to some how redirect the code to form a "Sq block" for the French + others?... or to change "Rank" numbers from 2/3 to 6 for squares only?... This also equals far less guns per face, more space between Sq's = A lot Better Cav attack inf battles.
