I will have to do mine tomorrow, steam is acting up again. Getting a bluescreen crash on the pc with M2TW for some reason, takes some hours before it works again...

"For after the their baptism the Croats made a covenant, confirmed with their own hands and by oaths sure and binding in the name of St. Peter the apostle, that never would they go upon foreign country and make war on it, but rather would live at peace with all who where wiling to do so; and they recived from the same pope of Rome a benediction on this effect, that if any other foreigners should come against the country of these same Croats and bring war upon it, then might God fight for the Croats and protect them, and Peter the disciple of Christ give them victories."

“Why, if the gods were cruel, they would have made me my mother’s firstborn, and Jaume her third.
I am a bloodthirsty man, you see. And it is me you must contend with now, not my patient, prudent, and gouty brother.”

    - This act of war will not be forgotten easily. The English are a proud and strong people who won't back off, kneel or tremble lightly.
    - I've heard plenty of my men calling me half mad. I don't deny, some semblance of madness truly does lie somewhere deep inside my soul. But I had those men whipped bloody nevertheless.
    - I hope you haven't forgotten that the Moors are raising their armies. We don't have enough time to finish the war with the English, not to make any mention of recovery afterwards. Vengence is a dangerous thing.
    - I do no deny that. I don't even deny that this is vengeance, yet that is but a part of what is at stake here.

Alfonso spurred his mount ahead in front of the line of soldiers, and turned to face his army. He stood there, silently, studying his men, and after a few moments a smile slowly crept on his face. And what a dreadful thing that smile was.

"Kill the men and rape the women, make servants of their children. Spare no one, show no mercy!"

His men started yelling frantically, taunting the men on the walls, shouting threats, making obscene sounds and some even showing their private parts, yelling after the enemies women to prepare a warm bed for their arrival.

The men loved him, all his people loved Alfonso almost as much as they did his elder brother Jaume. It was the pair of them that kept their lands safe and their women and children unmolested against all odds. Yet now their former king is dead, and their love and hope poured all into Alfonso. Most men didn't forget the wrongs the English did them, nor did they forget the massacre of the Spanish nobility. No amount of coin could ever buy the death of their beloved Jaume. A whole nation wept, while Alfonso, driven mad by his brother's death, wanted to plunge his people into another war, with barely any preparations made and with enemies on our doorstep with swords in hand, poised to destroy us.
He was, fortunately, convinced otherwise by Adalberto, Alfonso's right man on the battlefield. But Alfonso didn't heed his old knight's advice, not in truth. It was only to buy himself time and strength. He wanted the English to pay dearly for what they did, and he was going to do it right, and not let his anger get the best of him. Yet the time for sweet words finally passed, and the much awaited moment to start paying in blood for his enemy's wrongs has come.

Today on the battlefield the young King would forge a name for himself for the whole world to see. He had fire in his eyes, and his blood was boiling in his veins as he spurred his men towards the bloodshed that awaited on the walls of Burgos.

As the soldiers roared around him the old knight, he couldn't help but think of what this will mean for his people.

"What will be done here today will not be undone, ever." He told his young king while approaching him in front of their lines.
"What the English have done can't be undone either, blame them, not me old fool." With these last words he turned towards the castle and stormed down the hill towards the men near the ram that only just now breached the main gate. A storm was brewing above and in front of them, but not like the one they've kept inside their hearts all of this time.
