Maybe because Britain (Well the English) were the first people to actually sight the islands. Claimed the islands since that day and has never renounced the claim ever. Even when the Spanish and the French had settlements so did the British. Both Spain and France renounced their claims BEFORE Argentina was a country. Again Britain never did.

It would be like 3 people co owning a car. 2 of them no longer legally or morally claiming any kind of ownership over it. But the son of one of the 2 keep on crying about it because it was they believed that their dad gave them the car even after the dad renounced ownership.

And, I might add, before the son was actually even born...

The Argentine claim is imperialism, pure and simple. The Falklanders want to be British; Argentina has no rights in this.

This. I think the Falklanders have actually voted on the issue in the past.

I for one welcome our new Iranian Overlords...

It's being discussed right now at the Chamber of Deputies... Governing forces hold a solid majority and will pass it, burying our chances as a society to even hope of reaching justice regarding the AMIA bombings. And all of it for some gallons of Oil.

On an even sadder note by the time Cristina's term is over we will be strongly correlated to the best of the best: Venezuela's Cuasi-Dictatorship, Iran's Theocracy, Cuba's Regime and Ecuador's robber barons.

That's what i mean chaps... I'm actually support the British claim, i use 'occupied' in the sense of the verb. As in they were the first occupants, so its rightfully theirs.

Referendum over, only three votes against staying British. Displaying once again the only imperialists are in Argentina.

    Case in point:
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has maintained that the Falkland islanders' wishes are not relevant in what is a territorial issue.

    Absolutely.

Forgive me for being abrasive but I do believe that type of mindset occupied a certain infamous leader of twentieth century history and lead to the most disastrous conflict humanity has ever experienced.

If Argentina had a strong claim towards the islands, I would sympathize. Yet, I don't see how they do - with dutiful and objective investigation of both sides. Furthermore, the people have made their voice clear. They view themselves as people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; not as people of the República Argentina. Leave them be.

    It all seems so simple.

    No doubt a twit.
Yet she has a point though.
Very rarely people vote to chose their own country. It just wasnt how countries where formed in most cases. As territories is concerned anyway.

Knight, didn't you know that the British used referendums to ask the Indians if they wanted to become a British colony?

The UK is allowing a constituent nation a free vote on its future. Again, showing there's no imperialism in modern Britain.

Meaning that other British lands should/could have a referendum concerning their future as well?
