People who wanted to be charitable would simply find other avenues.

Very true, just like the BBC and the government

Oh what a ing stupid thing to say. I mean, why say that? Do you know how easy it would be to show you the BBC reports? How easy it would be to show you the Government investigations?

That's the best argument you can come up with? There's precedent of a pope resigning. Let him resign, especially given the dislike I'm hearing for him. You'd think we'd be hearing 'DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD' instead of complaints about him resigning. Of all things.

The papacy is a mortal office, always has been, always will be. It's also a head of state as much as the leader of the church. Remember that. The sooner they realize that it's more effectively executed when they allow resignations upon whatever sickness to allow for another election, the better for them anyway. Months of a 85+ year old head of state unable to conduct diplomatic relations because he's on his deathbed or otherwise indisposed for whatever reason is not good for the Vatican.

Thank he's gone anyway. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, most useless man on the planet. It would be far better if the whole position was abolised but at least this is a step in the right direction. It's clear from the likes of John Paul II that Popes can do some good but Benedict is just a terrible person at heart

My logic,in the current situation is man shouldn't change God's will, especially if that man is Pope.
English Queen and German President are heads of the state too, how many functions they posses ?
They shouldn't look on Vatican's but believers interest. I am pretty sure he's changed because he is not capable for leading RCC in way powerful groups in RCC desire ,but it doesn't matter. You can't just resign from position, you are not football manager but God's representative on Earth(another RCC dogma) , just think how will that affect believers attitude to church.

P.S. Molestation jokes aren't funny, btw. I thought that people with morals derived from a supreme omniscient being would know that.

So Petrucci, you'd rather handicap the Vatican for months while the Pope deals with medical difficulties? That's pathetic.

Vatican wouldn't be hadicaped ,they are many people working in pope's administration. Why is that pathetic?

Because it's often not good enough to speak to someone in the administration. There's a reason you have a damned head of state. Sometimes you speak to the head of state in these relationships. If he's indisposed, this creates problems that can otherwise be avoided very frakking easily by taking steps such as he is taking before these problems fully arise.

    Your opinion itself is absurd.

Condoms themselves can only, possibly, help if the people use them. They don't, not because the church tells them not to, but because poverty forces them to have children.

What do you want to do? Force them to wear condoms? Kill their children once illegaly concieved?

It is deluded to think the church got anything to do with it, unless you somehow want to claim the church is responsible for all poverty in the world - oh wait, that's something you would probably claim.

I would ask you to somehow provide a reason why you dismiss facts such as these that easily, but the answer is obvious: It doesn't fit into your world-view.

He isn't just regular head of the state, hes also head of the church. How long have Truman been on president duty before he was finally elected?

Are you saying the Americans were smarter in how they set up their government than how God set up his church? Insert irony here.

Free condoms? People who want children are irrelevant here. They're not going to contract or spread HIV as a faithful couple. It's people who are sleeping around, even cheating partners, who need condoms.
