RSII Installation problems - Steam user with Rome Gold Edition - +rep for help!

Just had an idea.
Could you try to put quote around the path, like this.

set SteamAppUser=christopher
set SteamPath="C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\"
set PATH=%SteamPath%;%PATH%

RomeTW-BI.exe

Save, and then just double click on the file.

I've tried every fix in this thread after getting the 'Problem Checking Steam Application' error.

I moved the RTW:G Files out of Program Files into a directory called C:\Games, and after fixing the launcher, and using the above fix to SteamLauncher, Rome Total War is initiating, and then pulling an error stating 'Problem Starting up Steam'.

Progress, I suppose. Any easy ways to fix this? Thanks Paedric. c:

Problem starting up Steam usually means that you haven't started Steam before.
You should log in on Steam first, and then try again.

Tried that, same message. Can't actually launch rtw through steam anymore either, so idk.

If you move it back to the place it was before, can you start it through Steam?

Move the modified rtw files into steam? I'll give it a go when I get home.

K, Moved Roma Surrectum 2 into c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common.

Now the game launches through steam with the RS2 Load screen, but I have no options for Singleplayer, only historical battles etc.

Choosing a faction and saving does nothing, and running the launcher itself results in a 'Problem Checking Steam Application' Error.

Gr, I was derping out. Had Barbarian Invasion selected, and was running Rome through steam.

So I thought - Hey, that's why the campaign isn't working.

However having BI Selected and trying to run BI Through steam results in a Problem Starting up Steam, And the same goes for Rome.

Wait, how did you get the RSII screen, by running the .bat file?
Or launching it through Steam?

I ran the launcher and saved my options ( Macedon, RTW-BI.exe ) And then ran regular RTW Through steam, not knowing that I had BI Saved under options. Trying to run BI When BI is saved through the launcher options returns errors.

did you remember to change the properties in your Rome total war game in steam? You must change set the launch options to something specific, Ill see if I can find it.

if you want to play Ptolemaic Egypt you put that in your launch options.

Just started having this message pop up today. I tried "Roma Surrectum II.exe -mod:play_Rome_One_Turn -show_err" in the launch options, and numerous variations of that, but I only get vanilla RTW BI to launch. Any ideas?

Ok I am having tons of problems with this after 2 weeks of playing this game (luv it btw) after steam updated today I can no longer get this game to launch threw the launcher. I get a error "problem checking steam". I tried every fix on this post to no avail. When i run the game threw steam however all i get is historical or custom battles. Thing is i was running threw the launcher fine for 2 weeks before the steam update today.

Yeah I think the most recent steam update screwed me up too. I just said screw it and bought the hard copy for $10 on amazon haha.

Hey, sorry to be a bother, but I've been searching around for a long time without a fix, seeing as this here thread has a little bit of a activity I might as well necro it a bit for a little help.

I have Rome total war Gold steam version, but not Alexander. I reinstalled the game to have it clean as a whistle and then I installed RS2 into a folder, as per instruction, copied the Rome total war folder and renamed it Roma Surrectum 2 to no get confuzed, so now I got Rome total war and Roma Surrectum in the Steam folder. Then I moved the files from the folder which contained the newly "installed" mod and moved it into the renamed Rome Total war folder.

I added the launcher to steam and selected to play it through at first vanilla Rome and then Barbarian Invasion. Both had the same result. I said yes to the steam question and put in my steams e-mail and pressed play as the Cimbri and others but the launcher just sits there. music still going, buttons highlightable and pressable but nothing happens and nothing more can happens if I press anything else. I can't even close the launcher without the task manager.

It's okay, I used the method that was just above, it seemed to work.
I don't know why this hadn't come to me sooner, I had already tried that with the launcher itself and the application, but that just opened up multiplayer.
So obvious. Thanks by the way.

Hey guys,

I also have Rome Gold on Steam, and have followed the install instructions to make a new copy of RTW (RS2) in a C:\Games folder, and also get errors when trying to play via the launcher.

When I load through Steam however, it's pointed at my C:\Program Files directory of the vanilla game - so how do I get this to work? =]
