Austria is happy to assist its faithful Empire-brethren, and its German friends.

The Hansa is not a German friend. They're barely even German!

Hansa is part of the "empire-brethren" however.

Failed Crusaders from the east, German-speaking foreigners from the south, and Frenchmen from the west, yet it is the German state who is least German?

@Izob i had hoped Apple would have had more honour and held their end of the bargain. I was wrong. This led me to the wrong decisions too and for that I apologise to you. We are both in debt to Austria and I hope we can work together for as long as we are bound together and the Hanseatic threat still exists.
Glorious Mother Russia has of course heard rumors far and wide of perfidious Teutonic Faith, and is forever wary of the western invaders.

You're all merely idolizing the civilization of Rome, which I am the true inheritor of!

No, that was the previous game green. There Austria was indeed a German state/province after the rulers from the Hansa declared it to be so.

Update from the Daimyo of Minamoto

During the recent time period, Minamoto made great strides to become the dominating force in Japan. After their monarch died, progress had not been made to successfully integrate the lands of the former Daimyo of Taira. The new Shogun was much more aggressive than his predecessor, immediately forging claims on the northern half of the Fujiwaran Daimyo's land and starting a war. Whilst Daimyo Tachibana also opposed Minamoto, their influence could not stem the tide and the Kingdom expanded greatly.

Overjoyed at his use of espionage in the first war, the Shogun then decided to use similar methods to create a claim to the Fujiwaran throne. This was only feasible due to a young monarch struggling to maintain a nation after the crushing defeat to Minamoto a few years prior. Whilst the Tachibanan Daimyo, afraid of Minamoto's conquests, rushed to aid Fujiwara, they were swiftly defeated and a union enforced. However, within a month the Shogun had already died. Lower ranked nobles rushed to form an independent administration, knowing that the young Shogun would not be able to declare war.

When said Shogun came of age though, he made it his top priority. Following in his Father's footsteps, he forged claims to the island of Shikoku. He swiftly crushed both Fujiwara (restoring the union) and Tachibana. An invasion of the latter was finally possible due to the regency's wise investment in large ships.

This animosity between the Daimyos however had consequences. The monarch saw Shogun as an outdated title and had his eye on unifying Japan altogether and replacing the Emperor. With relations strained, the Emperor decided to withdraw the title of Shogun. Whilst this could be associated with a loss of prestige amongst his brethren, Minamoto saw this as an opportunity to mercilessly destroy all opposition in the future. Plans are already underway for another war on Tachibana.

In other news, explorers from Portugal were sighted at various places along the Japanese coastline. Whilst these explorers have sent emissaries, they have neglected to leave a return address and efforts to expand relations and trade have failed as a result.

Two other players. You must remember that the Hanseatic League is not truly German. You, my little Swissball, are truly German.

I'd say it sounds Japanese. Every province sounds Japanese...

And greens, Hansa is also German. Just very bad and dishonorable Germans, but nonetheless German.

Nonsense, the people of the Hansa are clearly Wends

In other news, Japanese is now taught in all Swiss schools in anticipation of our new overlords.

Might want to start speaking Italian, Dan. More specifically, the Venetian accent might come in handy
