thanks for reposting that

its obvious that both parties are very stong willed. Surley DOTS some sort of compromise could be worked out between you and CA you got to put yourself in CAs shoes they could potentially lose a lot of sales because this mod would be released in a similar time frame to RTW2. Not to metion all the fans that stood by you guys for all those years come on guys try not to be so stubborn eveybody knows who made the mod at the end of the day. With all due respect Its not like your building some grand arthitecture in 50 years time every body would have forgoten about this mod.
read res in the permissions thread. basically they used other peoples/their own tools to make parts of the mod and these tools are needed to be released with the mod for the mod to work, however they have no right to release these tools and would create an infringement therefore if they released their mod because the tools would be officially under CAs control (in terms of rights to them) and CA has no want to get in some legal battle with other 3rd party people over tools released in a mod.
So just to be clear, it's not because dots doesn't want anyone using their stuff its because mods aren't protected by a seperate law, they work under the same law as the original game and dots has no rights therefore to use tools that aren't paid for/protected under the original medieval total war legal agreement. (it's all about the tools used and needed to make the mod work rather than the mods resources)

There should be a VCMI for DotS. It would solve all the problems.

That would actually be an excellent solution. Games like DOTA2 also come to mind. If the DotS team could do this, it could bypass engine limits regarding factions, units, army sizes, etc.
Of course I have no idea how this would play out legally or whether this would even be possible. But the idea is sound.

Im a bit confused here...so the mod isnt going to be released because the team wants to enact a copyright over their work? Its not Sega/CA trying to flex corporitist muscle?
Why not just not include your tools in the release, unless they are neccessary for the mod to work? I'd rather release the mod like that than not at all
And really, copyright is only good if youre making money. Otherwise, its for glory, and considering that the modding community isnt THAT big, you could troll the crap out of someone who steals your work
Aaaand, you'll have to deal with some big nasty lawyers if you tried selling the mod
Oh well, hope ya'll can work something out, I was interested in this mod, during the short time it was really alive
Ignoring the above posts about the mod being dead, because they are incorrect, let me answer this one.
As a specialist in historical geography it fell to me to come up with realistic and consistent population estimates to replace the list of unrealistic estimates plucked from sites such as wikipedia. These estimates do not conflict with game balance and provide a good representation of actual medieval demographics.
Armies have not been tested thoroughly enough to ensure that it is going to be balanced, but for now we aim to have a 1/1 ratio for armies.
I am still working on PSF research, though it is mostly fleshing out the PSFs rather than putting more in. Also, all of these PSFs will represented on the battle map, each in its own way.
As for the general status of beta testing: we still have some organising to do before we can resume testing, but we hope to get it going again soon.
ratio for armies 1/1 ??? wow just wow
thanks
hope i can soon contribute to the project
I might be wrong, but I think that 1/1 army ratio does not refer to the size of it. Instead, I believe it's related to the correlation between poblation "enlisted" in the army and the actual strenght of the army.
Again, I might be wrong since I am not part of the team.
That's correct PB, but this isn't the thread for that discussion
Hello Dominion of the Sword team! I have been following you eagerly since the beginning some years ago. Do you need any more beta testers? I all of a sudden have time now untill Christmas...

Hey there,
I just wanted to say that although I have applied myself to help with this great project, I have't get an answer yet. I guess the DotS team doesn't check the mail too often, but since I didn't know how to contact them, I've thought writing this post here could make them aware of my "availableness".
Keep up the great work!
Well , good luck with progress , Dots team .
I won't aplly for anything , I just wish you sucess with this mod .

so is it actually still alive now? how is exactly the road map for this project now?
Hello all involved in DOTS. Just thought I'd let you know that there's still people, shameless fanboys like me, that are still looking forward to testing and playing this mod.
So ignore the naysayers and hypocrites and don't loose faith!
Three cheers for the DOTS team past and present!
Looking forward to Dominion of the Sword
