The AI ALWAYS uses cheats. If it didn't the game would be laughably easy, as the artificial intelligence is really just artificial stupidity...

They get good armoured melee infantry (dismounted Serpent Guard) and good skirmishers and good mounted skirmishers and horse archers and good light and heavy cavalry and great unarmoured infantry (troll men - 2 hits and melee attack 11), plus Mumakil (though i never saw the AI have any Mumakil except in the army that (i think) spawned after i took Umbar, which had only one Mumakil when i saw it and it went off into Gondor (i was Dale)). So i'm not surprised the AI does well with them - they have no weaknesses - they have just about every troop type possible and all are either good or great (particularly annoying that naked skirmishers have 4 or 5 armour rating)

They were almost impossible to beat without heavy casualties playing as Dale against them - though partly because i had no top tier units yet when i was fighting them other than Bardian archers and toward the end some Barding Hird (plus it was a long way to march reinforcements for me and much shorter for AI Harad for most of the war as Mordor controlled Ithilien and i couldn't build a fourth army to take Ithilien from Mordor as i'd go bankrupt if i did)

Reminds me of my game with Dale as well. After hundreds and hundreds of turns I managed to turn the tide against Rhun and then I found out that Gondor started losing ground but with all the penalties in desert and mountain I decided to call it a day.It might made sense but it takes the fun out of fighting Harad ,Rhun and to a lesser extent Morder with all the recruitment penalties not to mention the poor selection of troops Dale has.

If you want to deal with Mummyies the ballistas are your friends.

A homeland system would have been better, you can recruit 100% in what is considered your homeland and 75% or 50% in the rest of the territories regardless of terrain.

I agree! Darn terrain penalties... It should be based solely upon culture % rather than terrain type, imo

oh yeah, I had the same problems with saving gondor.
it worked after I conquered the eastern anduin-shore, built culture buildings, captured the black gate - held it and gave all of Ithilien to Rohan, then mordor was a bit more quiet and I could pass through "east-rohan" via alliance and Military treaty...
then even gondor managed to capture eastern settlements on their own.
their problem is really that they face the combined might of Harad AND Mordor at the same time.
and rohan doesn't hep if you don't kick them in their ass and do the starting work for them.
(after that they even captured Minas Ithil on their own)

That can be changed mate, it`s quite simple, the problem is the amount of time required to do it.It will take hours at least.

Nice call mate.Giving settlements to allies could improve your game as well because you will not have to defend same territory again, again and again.TATW tends to become repetitive after some time.

I just gave it a thought.Maybe I can change some territories to grassland.I`ve seen some Harad and Rhun territories have some grass on them and I could change them from desert to grassland, having like 6 or 7 grassland territories in both Harad and Rhun land might help with fighting them a lot.
