Conkers Bad Fur Day
The only prefabricated storyline I have ever even been remotely interested in is Dishonored.
Just about every other game I've ever played the storyline was just filler I had to watch/listen to while I waited for the cutscreen to end so I could go about my business. I never even got past the 5th mission in Oblivion. Still haven't finished Skyrim. I actually finished Fallout's story but that's kind of becuase you don't see the end coming so quickly, and there isn't really much else to do.
Baldurs Gate? Just the way to gain access to higher level critters. Good and engaging, but I would have been just as happy if the game had started with "It's a dark and stormy night" and never gave me another storyline except the sidequest stuff.
The story actually stops me from playing a lot of games, because it hinders the gameplay.
So I guess I could say the best story in any game I have ever played is Mount and Blade, because it didn't have one.
"Every idea is an incitement. It offers itself for belief and if believed it is acted on unless some other belief outweighs it or some failure of energy stifles the movement at its birth. The only difference between the expression of an opinion and an incitement in the narrower sense is the speaker's enthusiasm for the result. Eloquence may set fire to reason." -Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
