I'm not an expert about bretonnian armies, but here you have some info about men-at-arms from games-workshop.com
Equipment: Hand weapon, shield, lightarmour and pole-arm (counts as a halberd
They can't wield spears. All of them must wield swords or pole arms, but never mixed.
You can send us some stuff to make better shields.

They can; it's in the army book, page 69.

Swords and spears are presented with different units in mtw 2 because they have different roles.

    Sixth edition.
I don't think the forum allows posting such kind of things, but you can readily grab a scan from numerous torrents.

We will make pole arms and spear versions later anyways.

Nice preview but they could have a more dark ages medieval look and the shields are a little too fancy for them. Id use simple tower shields or maybe kite shields for some of them. Id remove the chest plates or keep them to a minimum and keep only mail. I would replace the mail skirts for simple cloth skirts. They need more leather, more cloth, more ring mail, padded armour. I would use simple colours in the clothing and use colourful stuff only in the heraldry. And, yes, they actually can have mixture of different weapons. Here are a few concepts I scanned:

I think that there should be 2 different units of men-at-arms, one that uses swords and another that uses spears/halberds.

They're not dark ages. They're 14th-15th century. Late medieval. Hundred Years War. They're just armed peasants, so they have crappier armor than they otherwise would. They've got kettle helms, partial plate, pavises, etc.

Mind you, that's only their cultural aesthetic. They have a 17th century navy.

In the tabletop game the polearms give them +1 Strenght, while the One handed weapons plus Shield give them +2 Armour Save.
The whole unit must use the same type of weapons even if your miniatures have a mix. You must chose one type.
It's like the skeletons units for the undead. You can equip your miniatures with swords and/or spears, but when you play a battle you must specify what kind of weapon they are wielding.

You are all wrong , Bretonnians are 12 or 13th century, by looking helmet and weapon of the knight and looking that they have no gun power, only bows , use your head 2 second.
