Default Griffin's Roost, seat of House Connington

    Griffin's Roost (WIP)

Griffin's Roost is near to the ancient Storm's End, seat of Baratheon, to whom they have sweared allegiance. The Griffin's seat is an impresive castle, sorrounded in three of its sides by cliffs, and the only entrance through a narrow and small stone bridge. The fortress has been restored in recent times, with a new tower erected (being now two crowning the fortress), and more room both for the lord's house and the armory, which thanks to the current, war-like, lord is plenty of weaponry. Many smiths, stonemasons, and specialized workers are ever around, ready to the Griffin's most strange desires, something in which he spends most of his wealth. The interior is worthy of the proud Conningtons, with old tapestries showcasing the House's feasts, and their most beloved relic and symbol of lordship: The Griffin's Throne.

    Regional bonuses:

-Strong Defensive position: Griffin's Roost is sorrounded on three sides bby the Shipbreaker Bay, and the only approach is past a fortified gatehouse and through the 'griffins's throat', a long bare ridge where the defendes can easily shower any hostiles with misiles from the two towers around the castle's main gates. +3 to siege rolls.
-Strong levy: The levy in this region increases 2%

    Regional trade resource:
Armor - enables 50% of levy light infantry to become heavy infantry OR 25% of levy light cavalry to become heavy cavalry
Griffin's Roost chooses: 50% of light infantry->Heavy infantry=+37,5 men, to Heavy Infantry ranks

    Buildings:
    Militia Armoury: +10% Levy
    Market Square: +10% income
(Coastal Only) Dockyard: +10% naval Levy, +10% income

    Trade:
Route I: Armors-Timber, trading with the Dreadfort
Route II: Armors-Gold, trading with Castamere

    Current lord: Tytos Connington
    Heir Apparent: Maegor Connington

    History

-The Conningtons, proud, read-haired, stern and passionate, are the lords of Griffin’s Roost, being one of the many bannermen in Stormlands. Their recent story is wrapped in blood and family feuds, and the Roost was more a Viper’s than a Griffin’s one. Nowadays the Lord is the Iron-fisted Tytos Connington, self-styled the Steadfast.

    Lord:
    Tytos Connington

    -Age: 41+1=42+1=43
-Titles: Lord of Griffin’s Roost, self-styled: The Steadfast, whispered: The Bloody Griffin
    -Marital Status: Widower
-Children: Maegor Connington, Alysanne Connington, Argilac Connington
    -Traits: 13+1=14+1=15
    +2 Duels, +4 Battle rolls, +1 Jouster, +1 Survival, Siege Rolls +3, Pillager +1, +1 Fist Fighter

Biography: Tytos Connington was for long the sole heir of Griffin’s Roost, until a child was born of his uncle, Viserys Connington, by his late Darry wife (year 190). Enraged he assaulted the castle in a surprise attack, while the Lord, and entourage, was in a hunting lodge nearby. He then decided to hold the castle, usurping de facto, the title. Viserys soon prepared his levy and launched five desperate assaults to the Roost, in the fifth and last Tytos himself killed his uncle. Since then and for being greatly outnumbered he called himself the Steadfast. An able warrior and jouster since his youth a wound he received in the head made him prone to anger, and to bouts of melancholy, worsened by the death of his beloved wife, a Drinkwater. Lately he refurnished the Griffin’s Roost after long years of decay, building a impressive stronghold, also hiring expert smiths and workers from afar, something that supplied him with an impressive array of weaponry.

    Offspring:
    -Heir Apparent:
    Maegar Connington
    -Age: 21+1=22+1=23
-Titles: The Fair Griffin, heir to Griffin’s Roost
    -Marital Status: Single
    -Children: Ashara Storm (4)
    -Traits:
    +2 Duel, +1 Jouster, Income (Tier 1), Loyalty (Tier 1), +1 Jouster, +1 Survival

Biography: The first surviving son of Connington (after few miscarriages), born when his father was still heir apparent, inherited not his father’s red hair, but the blond, golden, hair of his Drinkwater mother. Proficient with the arms he’s not too fond of some of his father decisions, but anyway he’s as stern, hot-blooded, as his father is. Being a proud young lord he would even split blood with the smallest offense (even more to those who dare to defy his father’s rights or his sister’s reputation). However he’s extremely popular to his father’s men-at-arms and the peasantry alike, because he knows that a man who can inspire loyalty, can also demand the greatest feats from his vassals. He fathered a daughter with an Essos’s merchant wife he met in Dorne, Plankytown, and which was sent by the enraged cuckold as a newborn to Griffin’s Roost.

    -Alyssane (16+1=17+1=18): The She-Griffin

Beautiful and cunning she’s the true mind behind many of his father’s actions, such she should be the one named the true Griffin. She's ambitious, and would love to rule a feud on her own. However she's not cruel or merciless, just as passionate and hot-blooded as his brother, or the Lord himself.

-Argilac (15+1=16+1=17): Title: The Red Eaglet

    -Marital Status: Single
    -Children: N/A
    -Traits:
    Archer +1
    Survival +1

An archaic name chosen for an unlikely son, born in the deathbed of his mother, nearly being killed in the process. A shadow of his older brother he has inherited the true looks of the Connington, something which his father is proud of. He’s not a skilled warrior, but very interested both in History and Art, even if he likes the Art of Archery. However he seems to like too much the company of a young Red Priest, in a relationship shrouded in mystery. Some whispers that the young Griffin is a worshipper of R’hllor, others that they are lovers and many… both things (to his family’s shame).

    -Brynden Connington (6+1=7):

The son of the deposed Viserys, he's a prisoner in his rightful castle, but is being raised as a common Westerosi noble child. Kind and graceful, with a soft heart, he seems to be the opposite of his uncle and cousins, who watch carefully this Griffin's cub.
He is right now being fostered by his uncle, Ormond Yronwood, and such is a pupil in Yronwood's seat

    Family tree:

    Jon Connington, the Old (+)
-Viserys the Deposed (+): Married Barbara Ryswell (+) and Dacey Yronwood: One son:
    Brynden Connington
-Stannis the Unfortunate: Married his cousin, Jeyne Connington: One son:
Tytos Connington the Steadfast: Married Ashara Drinkwater: offspring:
--Maegor Connington, the Fair Griffin: One natural daugther: Ashara Storm
    --Alysanne Connington
    --Argilac Connington, the Red Eaglet

    Auxiliary characters:
-Barristan Storm (32): A bastard from a twice-removed cousin of Tytos. He’s the lord’s most trusted friend and warrior, and acts as his personal bodyguard. None knows he also enjoyed the Alyssanne favours not long ago.
-Shakaz of Mereen: Red Priest, ardent R'hllor suporter.
-Madon: The Fortress' maester. Middle aged, wise and learned, an able profesional, one of the dearest advisors to Tytos.
    -Robb: The Griffin's Roost Septon.

    TROOPS:

    -Lord's Retinue: Dancing Griffins: 50 men-at-arms

-Household Guard: The Red Griffins: 300 soldiers
    Hire Cost: 20,000 Dragons
    Upkeep Cost: 6000 Dragons
Skill: These troops form the personal bodyguard of the Lord in a battlefield situation. Formed of minor nobility, wards, trusted retainers and second sons of wealthy lords, these men represent the best equipped fighting force Westeros can field, composed of men with the financial means to buy the best and spend most of their time in training. If these men are present as the Lord's bodyguard the Lord gains +2 to the post-battle condition roll (eg dead, captured, wounded, free) and, if the Lord to which they are attached leads a cavalry charge, these men form the highly-armoured spear tip granting the charge an additional +1 modifier.

    -Dismounted Knigths:
    The Griffin's Claws: 300x4=1.200 soldiers
    Hire Cost: 12,000 Dragons
    Upkeep Cost: 2500 Dragons
Skill: The heaviest of heavy infantry, these men are armed and armoured to the teeth. These troops gain +3 to battle rolls. This will be divided by their ratio in the fighting forces and decimal points rounded as normal. Therefore, this unit type must compose at least 1/6th of the clashing infantry to gain a +1, 1/2 of the clashing forces to gain +2, and 5/6ths of the clashing forces to gain a full +3.

-Siege Crossbowmen: The Griffin's Beak: 300 soldiers

    Hire Cost: 5000 Dragons
    Upkeep Cost: 1500 Dragons
Skill: Wielding massive crossbows, these troops are extremely slow firing but their bolts fly with a frightening force. These troops gain +3 to their rolls during sieges, and -3 to their rolls during field battles. Moderators are encouraged to conduct their shooting rolls separately from other ranged units to accomplish this.

LEVY: VERY SMALL LEVY: 500 men+2%=512 soldiers

75 Bronzegate Axemen (equivalent elite infantry)
    75 Light Inf-37,5=37,5 (Well:37)(armor bonus)
    75 Heavy Inf+37,5=107,5 (Well:107)(armor bonus)
    50 Polearms
    50 Archers
    100 Crossbowmen
    50 Light Cavalry
    25 Heavy Cavalry

    Total: 2360
LEFT AT GRIFFIN'S ROOST (Army on the move):
    37 Light Inf
    25 Light Cavalry

A raven arrives with a special note.

    Dear Lord Connington,
I write you this letter hoping that perhaps we could come to an agreement. You are known for your fine armor and we of the North for our fine timber which we cut yearly. I think that perhaps we should take advantage and establish this trade between our two houses.

    Sincerely,
    Gregori Bolton

    "Father"

Maegar enters his father's chamber, Tytos is working with the maester at his side.

"Some sellsails, have come us and demand an audience"

"Prepare the Gripphon's Hall, I shall receive them seated in the Griffin Throne. Maester Madon, help me prepare to met those sellsails, and call my squire"

Half an hour later the captain and his partners are guided into the Great Hall, lavishly decorated with tapestries and frescoes, with many tall windows looking to the Shipwreakers Bay. Tytos wears intrincate garments and robes, with the dancing Griffins in the chest, embroidered with gold and pearls. His intention was both to amaze and intimidate the Bolton envoy. And he's sitting in the golden throne of Griffin's Roost, forty-or-so generations old. Looking fierce, majestic and menacing.

"You shall now speak, what do you want sellsails? Hope will be profitable"

Jon Pyke bows and then begins to speak.

"I am Jon Pyke of the Iron Islands. I have travelled far and wide over the seas fighting numerous battles and protecting or taking many merchants. I recently lost my ship in a storm and I have decided to restart my mercenary's guild. For that, I need starting capital and a place to build my base. If you were to provide me with upwards of 10,000 dragons and permission to build my base you will have first call on my services at a discounted rate if you so choose. The more gold you invest the better the return".

Tytos looks the Ironborn with delight...

Did the Gods themselves send him?

He whispers something in his maester's ear, and discuss something with his son. Then, with commanding voice:

"I, Tytos Connington, the Steadfast, Lord of Griffin's Roost, command that 10.000 golden dragon will be paid to Jon Pyke, Iron Born. But I also offer the aforementioned captain a whole drydock, harbor and shipyar, in our domain to work on, where he can stablish his seat, base and living quarters; and also the timber traded with Dreadfort, for he shall build a fleet. I, Tytos also grant the right to Pyke to take what is needed from the castle's armory, to armor himself and his men. Also they will be under my protection, and such further expenses could be payed by us. In exchange of what is here proclaimed I thereby, and strongly, desire Jon Pyke to swear loyalty to Griffin's Roost, such becoming the captain of my fleet and sailors"

    Tytos then lowens his voice:

"If acepted, you shall now be part of my host, and a respected leader of men. The Griffin is always generous"

Jon Pyke thinks about these offers then answers

I will accept your proposal with certain limitations. I will swear to serve your house but the ships and buildings I build will be my own. As long as I am paid I will serve you and your house faithfully. I will be your man in all things. To build a respectable fleet I will need gold. As my first order of business should I pursue and eradicate smugglers and pirates in the area?

Tytos smiled, happy, and that could be noticed by the ironborn.

"I agree. The ships and buildings will be your own, and you will be paid, but your loyalty must not be broken. You'll have gold. In fact I grant you the income from the trade with the Boltons. You'll have money and free timber, you will have resources enough. But in case of need, I'll provide"

    Tytos gaze turns rogue

"But you won't only clean the sea of smugglers and pirates, I want you to hunt them, in their very own lairs. Also you shall, with my permission, but with bannerless ships, loot and capture every ship you think it's fitting for our fleet or has great riches, with the sole condition of don't attacking Martell's, Baratheon's, the King's or the ones belonging to my trade partners"

"I think you'll find our deal satisfying, we'll both get wealthier, and you'll do what ironborn do best. I like your ways, Pyke. And I want a fleet"

"Madon, send two squires with them as guides. They shall take possesion of our dockyard"

Madon nods and calls the squires.

"I hope you accept my terms, Pyke. If so you may now leave"

Jon's eyes glow with pleasure at the deal offered to him. He had the chance to continue the life he loved, but also have a landward base to fall back on besides the prestige of being a lord's admiral.

"I of course accept your more than generous offer my lord. My loyalty is yours my lord, you have given me gold and titles and better yet, trust. We both will prosper with this deal."

Jon is pleasantly suprised when informed he could also resort to piracy.

"Aye my lord, as you have decreed I will carry it out. Our enemies will not dare to show their flags in these waters once I have finished my bloody business. Hopefully many rich targets will abound and I can continue to enlarge my fleet. Already I have given orders for 5 stormbreaker ships to be laid down. These will form the base nucleus of the fleet. With enough time and gold I hope to increase this number to ever greater heights, establishing Griffin's Roost as a naval power in the Stormlands."

After being dismissed Jon heads toward the docks escorted by the 2 squires.

A raven arrives at Griffin's Roost with a letter for Lord Connington. It carries the seal of House Reyne of the Westerlands.

Greetings, noble Lord Connington of Griffin's Roost.

I, Lord Wallace Reyne of Castamere, propose a trade between our two noble Houses. I offer the finest gold in all of Westeros for the famed armor of the Stormlands. This trade would benefit us both, and I hope that these terms are acceptable for you as well.

    Dear Lord,

My men have finished their efforts and I have the pleasure to inform you that docks have been built at Griffin's Roost and five Stormbreaker Ships have been finished and provided with crews. I will personally take these ships and seek to do as you have ordered, establishing our control of the sea. I also would like to inquire as to my yearly payment of 10,000 dragons. With that payment I can begin five more Stormbreaker ships to add to our fleet.

    Sincerely,
    Jon the Leviathan Pyke

    Dear Tytos Connington,

I write you requesting that my nephew, Brynden Connington, is sent to Yronwood to be fostered by me. He is my late sister's only son and as such I hope he can be tutored here.
My sons Cletus and Ormond would be great influences and it is important that he grows us close to boys his age. At the age of 16 I would grant him the opportunity to return home to you or stay at my court of course.

I've sent him to Stonehelm, where he shall take a ship. Such will arrive in less than a week to Yronwood. But in these troubled times you may better keep him at your Home, the roads are getting dangerous, and war may be near. Thanks to you for this gracious offer.
