    Default Problem with teutonic "family"

Hi all, I want to set up a "standard" faction as teutonic "style", to use their kind of genealogy. The only thing I did was change the descr_sm_factions, putting the family_style of this faction as teutonic, but it doesn't work: when the leader dies, the faction is destroyed like they have no other leader. Anyone could give me any suggestions? Thanks

That will make the faction "immortal" - even without anything (settlements, named_characters) the faction will be not be destroyed (see pope and rebels)

If you use the 'has_family_tree teutonic' entry then it is advisable to set the leader and the heir in descr_strat. The game will appoint a new heir when the leader dies and the heir becomes the new leader, if there was no heir to start with then this will lead to the faction being destroyed.

Uhm, but I grave designed a heir in the descr-strat, but it doesn't work anyway. Anything more?

No further ideas other then it being a glitch, possibly triggered by a trait.
Try changing a different faction to 'teutonic' and see if the error persist.

This is very strange: setting Russia as teutonic doesn't work; I have tried with Milan and it works! But why????

Compare the arrangement for characters for both factions in descr_strat. Eg: at which position are leader and heir placed, are leader and heir in a family tree - that kind of stuff.

I've been trying everything but I cannot find a solution. This is the entry in descr_strat:

character Jeor Mormont, named character, male, leader, age 90, x 118, y 429
    army
    unit Guardia_GDN exp 2 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

character Jaremy Mormont, named character, male, heir, age 40, x 116, y 428
    army
    unit Guardia_GDN exp 2 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    character_record Alysane, female, age 60, alive, never_a_leader

relative Jeor Mormont, Alysane, Jaremy Mormont, end

When the leader dies, the faction is destroyed, like there was no other character. Any idea about what's non compatible with a teutonic_family faction? Thanks

The first generation in a teutonic family tree should work like the regular one - after that it will be promotion via trait levels (high command etc).

Try again by simply removing the entries below and alternatively remove the 'heir' entry from Jaremy as well:

    Code:
    character_record Alysane, female, age 60, alive, never_a_leader

relative Jeor Mormont, Alysane, Jaremy Mormont, end

At the end I have managed to make it work: don't understand why, but it works only if the leader has at least two sons! Better late than never!
    Gigantus, thanks for your help.

The original family tree of the teutonic order has three sons, so you might have a point there. The family tree doesn't show in game, so I suppose it is only to support the game engine.

    xD

I just wanted to share i just used "has_family_tree teutonic" for late era SS teutonic order faction, which only start with 2 named characters and no family whatsoever and it worked fine...on 1st turne sent the faction leader on a suicidal mission...he got killed and the designed heir inherited the faction without any issue...later in next turn i received an adoption offer and at the end of that turn this new adopted guy became the faction heir.

only this error popped in the log:
    Code:
    21:01:54.025 [script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/SS6.4/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt, at line 10161, column 1
The character record Councillor Conrad is set as faction heir but is not in the family tree.
which is harmless AFAIK but well you can make it stop appearing if you give the starting faction leader a wife and daughter married to the designed heir, that way you dont mess up with their last names or nothing.

Correct, that is the usual 'fix' for teutonic family tree log errors. Alternatively you can make him the son if the parent\child age difference is sufficient.
