fun fact to add- first recorded (and verified) christmas tree was set up in 1441 in Reval (modern Tallinn), Estonia by brotherhood of blackheads
however, tradition of setting up christmas trees for various midwinter pagan holidays (keep in mind, that christmas is at the time when its literally darkest time of the year in north) in Scandinavia, Estonia and Latvia dated back for several hundred years at minimum
so, Merry christmas/jul/hannukah/whatever you celebrate
