    As of May 22nd, 2013, Amazons:Total War 7.0E with patch has been released

    Amazons Total War 7.0 allows the player to explore many modern military concepts on the battlefields of antiquity, such as

    • Mobility and Stand-off Weapon capability using various women cavalry units.
    • Deploying Area Denial "minefield" on the battlefield using field engineers. A first on RTW mod.
    • Wagon fighting units with battle tactics not unlike German Panzer in WWII.
    • Guerrilla Warfare, allowing agent to infiltrate into enemy territory to raise army deep behind the enemy line.
    • Long Range Mobile Artillery, allowing artillery barrage, fire-support, and counter-battery.
    • Linked Armor-Clad Cavalry, a dominating cavalry formation for centuries in Eurasia, never before depicted by any video game.
    • Terrifying Super-heating Incendiary Weapons, in modern day military parlance known as the thermite munition.

    Other Highlights of 7.0 Series

    • Newly extended campaign map, now from British Isle to Afganistan.
    • New Far Eastern Celt faction:
      based on latest archaeological finding and anthropological theories. first time in any video game.
    • Newly re-balanced Amazon Advanced Units.

    • Lush scenery and breathtaking landscape using faster custom RS II battle environment.

    As of May 22nd, 2013 - version 7.0E with patch is released

    The new changes are
    1. Corrected unit info error reported by Wheelie Paul (Thanks Wheelie) for Amazonia
    2. and Armenia, Far East Celt, Sarmatian, Thyssa Amazon, and Geothe Amazon
    3. Added resources constraint so Meroe units for Egypt can only be recruited from Kushite areas.
    4. Added horse herding as a strategical resources, so factions must contest the horse herding regions to get cavalry units.
    5. The above change excludes horse breeding, so units using fast race horse can still recruit units from horse breeding areas.
    6. The above two changes excludes chariot units, wagon units, linked armor clad cavalry units.
    7. Numidian cavalry can only be recruited from Numidian territories, not just any region within the faction.
    8. The new Meroe Foot Companion unit for Egypt is now recruitable in campaign (thanks again WP).
    9. corrected Horse Breeding resource with a hint message saying the resource is pig.
    10. New Armenian high poly model for Armenic Infantry and Armenic Guard Immortal

    As of March 21st, 2013 - 7.0C release with 3rd patch is out

    Following Celestial Shuttle Buddy's approach in Beta, we are micro-updating the 7.0C yet again.
    The changes are:
    • New female light archers units for most factions., this has finally been converted to true 512x512 which used to be simply slightly altered vanilla version (as in Amazon Total War 3.0).


    • mounted light archers, which are horse archer version of the above.
    • Re-animated militia foot archer and horse archer units.
    • completely re-animated longbow horse archers.
    • New animation of parthian, sarmatian, and scythian noblewomen.
    • Corrected missing Geothe armored archer texture file
    • Amazon factions' armored units now sport colored armors to reflect the color of their their own factions. This carries on the tradition dated back from Subrosa's ATW 1.0 days.
    • Corrected Libyan militia archer unit's hair color problems which were mixture of dark brown and blonde hair.
    • Corrected Rebel militia archer unit's hair color problems.
    • Corrected Amazon militia hoplite bone placement issues.
    • Removed unused files.
    • Corrected embedded file reference for battlewagons and chariots
    • New Goethe General Bodyguard 3D model
    • New Amazon Campanion Cavalary 3D model
    • Corrected militia archer 3D model issue, now with the hip strap removed from the back quiver.

    Units mentioned in #1 and #2 are the most proliferated archery units in the mod, so these changes will have major impact on the appearance of the game.

    • The armored chariot archers weren't armored due to a modeling limitation, it is now corrected.We really have some amazing animation specialists.
    • The cover for the battlewagon has been re-done with more armor.
    • New plumbatarii cohort model and animation.
    • New armored plumbatarii model and animation.
    • Finnic Archers both mounted and foot archers are re-animated for smoother appearance.
    • New Thyssa Arbalest cavalry and infantry animation.
    • Arbalest cavalry and infantry units are now recruitable by Libyan Amazons
    • Amazon infantry units have re-assessed Balanced Unit Modeling (B.U.M.) evaluation & equipment as appeared in the texture and their 3D models have been adjusted.

    • Corrected an Amazon arbalest elbow animation issue, the elbow bone were set too far over the elbow and resulted in strange appearance during aiming.
    • added Amazon edge-less version of Thyssa Arbalest Cavalry and Arbalest Infantry units, now the legs will not show edge.
    • Corrected Amazon Peltast animation where in side-looking motion, the head would come off the shoulder, due to older 3DS Max always deform issue with new animation files.

    • New EDU stat for new units to reflect the changes. More hit power for ax and halberd, less defensive because ax can not be used for blocking but sword can.

    • Reduced poly counts on complex animation models by 22%, without any loss of resolutions or visual appearance.

    • After three years, finally added mano-ballista 3D models for advanced units.
    • New Armenian Halberdier weapon and animation.
    • Corrected missing "amazon_archers" animation files uncovered by naftykid.

      What used to be a tutorial Quest faction is now a fully playable quest faction like Amazonia and Thyssa Amazons. Changes as response to Balgeron's report.

    • New Roundshield Xiphos Plumbatarii Textures with new helmet design and corrected two hair color problem.
    • New Companion Archer Textures, correcting lazy eyes problem and new helmet design.

    As of February 1st, 2013 - 7.0A, the first post beta release is out

    • Now AI confers title to Amazon Generals when the quest is accomplished, per Uthril's suggestion.
      The title will gain the general prestige as well as command ability.
    • Barbarian peasant unit is deemed too well attired per B.U.M principles,
      it was basically the vanilla barbarian infantry without the shield and the spear.
      This has been revised to make them more rugged and lower cost in appearance.
    • Using more efficient DDS format to allow less file footprint and memory + speed improvement.
    • Revised standard bearer for Celt and Gauls for better battlefield identification.
      Since Amazon Total War 7.0 does not use artificial banner for better realism,
      standard bearer is an extremely important visual aide in Amazon Total War for battlefield C&C.
    • Revised Amazon long shield design.
    • Revised Amazon Axes shoulder armor linkage.
    • Renamed Roman Auxilia units

    • - Beefed up Rebel/Renegade to make some of the renegade provinces not so easy to take over.

    Removed auto-gen scripts features in 7.0 Beta for now because it was deemed not straight forward enough to the users
    Completed new Far East Celt units animations and skins.
    Completed new mod script.
    Completed new rebel units.
    Added first path of Area Denial weapon, first of such on any RTW mod.

    As of November 25th, 2012

    Here are what the mod team have done.

    1. Integrated the extended map with Amazon Culture and campaigning.
    It is now completely playable.
    2. R&D on Campaign Planner utility software and multiple campaign menu options.
    We are still exploring and not sure of the final options are going to be.
    3. Since this mod is more about Equestrian Matriarchal society, we moved the faction Numidia to the East and either going to renamed it as Central Asian Yuezhi (月氏) people or the Hindu Paurava (पौरव) kingdom, and I am still waiting for the after action reports and recommendations. Both people in these locations are Caucasians (yes, some with very dark skins because of melanin) and share close DNA's with modern day Europeans.
    4. Introduce wagon warfare into Amazon Total War, since so many historical record have described battles fought with wagons, particularly significant is the Battle of Catalaunian Plains (451AD) or Sino-Hunnish Battle of Mobei (119 BC), both battle changed history and in both battles the laager (or wagon fort) played significant part in the battle. While the new wagon units for both rebel and playable faction won't be like wagon fort (either laager or tabor), the mod team is trying to make the war carts play far more important role in Amazon battles.

    That sounds brilliant.

    Were the Yuezhi one of the tribes among the Saka or were they the ones which chased the Saka into India? I vaguely recall the name from Europa Barbarorum.

    Just hope I can get those teething issues sorted on my Rome Total War before then.

    The Yuezhi people were Northern Iranistani like people (called Tocharians) who are caucasoids that lives in the northwestern frontier of modern day China, they lived there for at least a few thousand years but got chased out of their homeland by the Huns, they then moved to the Tarim basin but got chased out there by the Usunes (aka Wusuns, again, another group of Caucasian people).

    After that, the Yuezhi separated, one group is supposed to have migrated to Northern China (but no genetic evidence so far can support that record), and the other group migrated to Bactria.

    Yeah I remember now, the EB map had a Campus Yuezhi territory in the top right corner.

    Thats very good. That part of the map could use some nomads to spice things up. Will they be a hoard or start off at Campus Yuezhi? Weren't the Parthians or Dahae also a nomad hoard in 270BC as well; before they entered the Seleucid Empire?

    So, poor Carthage and the Greeks have to hold off the Libyan Amazon?

    I was planning to made the Yuezhi people a wagon warfare tribe, you just made me wonder if they should be a wagon wondering tribe as well!!

    Spain would be much stronger in this release than before and more friendly to the Carthaginians, the Libyan Amazons are also more friendly towards the Carthaginians. All the factions in North Africa hated the Greeks and the Romans.

    I forgot to mention that the Numidian might also be moved to India instead to portray the Mauryan empire. At the time of 270BC, it has the strongest armed forces, with 90,000 war elephants and equal number of chariots, plus 600,000 soldiers.

    Doing that will not have any impact on wagon tactics either, the Libyan Amazon and the Thyssa Amazon are all going to have horde mode with plenty of wagons.

    Wow I didn't think they were that powerful. Would that mean they were actually stronger than the Seleucids in terms of manpower? I guess if they're that strong in 270BC it would make sense to put them in. The Yuezhi only become a force much later on I think and you already have the Parthians as a nomad faction.

    The dilemma is, the Maryan Empire is really off the map, the map locations shown in India is really the Paurava (पौरव) kingdom or Paurava (पौरव) Confederacy.

    Not an EB expert, but many of the expanded map are based on MM4 map (including this mod), it is difficult to add all the territories the modders would like to include.

    In the MM4 case, the only Hindu territory are the northern provinces. It is a matter of how many model units types and how many locations we can squeeze into a limited space (255 and 255 for both in BI).

    Oh no, I just find it funny that the EB mod is all about history but they've added the Mauryan Empire in as a faction; despite having the same map they've always used.

    Really the Yuezhi are a good idea.

    I guess it depends on when your textbook went into print. And no, Yuezhi translates to the "Descendants of Moon", the Saka translates to be the "archer", or "shooter".

    Because by the latest discoveries in the last six years. That statement about "...Yuezhi is just chinese name of scythian.." is not true, saka, usunes, and yuezhi has clear delineations by about at a least 3 thousand years.

    It is sad however, historically speaking, the most records about the Usunes and the Yuezhis are from the Chinese. And in these cases they are a lot like the Greek's records, whose historians tend to lump many people whom they feel fitting into the a similar description as one "people".

    The Yuezhi, however, has official diplomatic relationship with the Han Dynasty of China for two and a half centuries. The Han chinese were trying hard to form an alliance with the Yuezhi to fight against the Huns (at the time the Hunnish Empire is the greatest on earth and has became a menace to all Central Asian peoples). It is clear that the Yuezhi are Caucasian people with blond hair and fair skin, they are a stock of northern Indo-european who lived in the modern day Chinese northwestern frontiers for at least 3,000 years at the time of Huns, they have highly developed culture and industries.

So far, there is no similarity between the Saka and the Yuezhi in these two aspects of their culture. Current research also trace the Yuezhi people as the first culture that domesticated horses.

    The Saka, is also of Indo-european stock, which is the word translated to mean Scythian. And that DNA lineage is the only thing they have in common with the Yuezhi people. In general, the term Saka can not be used in such descriptions, because you can say by their looks or genome, most of the modern day European people are Saka people (i.e. the Indo-european and Nothern Iranian, or Caucasian lineage, [chuckle, they probably are, if my anthropology thesis is correct about the Amazons being the progenitors of Goth, Norse, and the Alani people]), However, this would be a great mis-characterization.

    Yuezhi, if they are Tocharians, they didn't speak Iranian language, because they language, Tocharian is an independent branch of Indo-European language family.

    I am very confused!

    I never stated that Tocharian speak Iranian. Please read my comments correctly. I did mentioned that Yuezhi are northern Iranistani stock (meaning Caucasians in genetics), but I never mentioned what language they spoke.

    A quick FYI, Tocharian is in fact a variant of Celtic language, so it is hardly independent.

    Just finished discussion with the mod team and we decided to make the Numidian faction East Celt (or Tocharian/Yuezhi) instead of an Indian faction.

    Principal reason is that the Numdia, as it is right now in 7.0 release, is usually the first faction got destroyed in the game.
    The Indian faction would be a great addition, but we are short of the animation slot in the battle units to accommodate the Indian units, whereas, many of the East Celt faction units can be shared with the Celtic federation.

    With the addition of the following:

    - horde war wagon units
    - regular war wagon units, filled with archers inside of nearly indestructible wagons.
    - light chariot units with fast mount
    - women cavalry units,
    - linked armor clad cavalry

    since by 270BC the Tocharians should be seriously depleted of men folks, having been chased out of the Tian Shan (天山 - "celestial mountains") region by the Huns.
    A second dilemma is that East Celtic people are shown to be a large stock of people, even the women can be easily 6 foot (or 180cm) tall, men are giants of 6 and half foot and as stated in the Amazon total war white paper, because most of the horses of their time are only 12 hands tall (48" or 120cm), there would be no equestrian mount their menfolks can ride on for war, except for very specialized horse breeding.

    - Elite horse archer unit with special war horses to carry larger load yet can keep up pace with the light horse units.
    Tocharian does show to have a horse breeding program.
    - Mounted Halberd units. This is actually the preferred way of cavalry combat than lance before the invention of stirrups.
    - linked cataphract cavalry, this is a special unit which link the cataphract horses 4-16 horses abreast, and they are unstoppable at charging an enemy on a level battlefield. Not only that, they are also faster than regular cataphracts, because it only requires one rider every other horse, or every four horses, so horses' load are lighter, therefore the unit can move faster as well. This is an actual combat unit described in historical record principally used by the Kitan, the Tangut, and the Chinese people.
    - mounted ballista artillery
    - only Indian Elephant units

    Unlike the regular Celtic faction, the East Celt are more peaceful, and will not be easily provoked to war, but will field a formidable army once a conflict started.

    Thanks to Balgeron and Kaiser Christoph XVIII's feedback, we have resolved 6.0K's the saving game issues.

    Because all the dev team members are tied up on 7.0 releases, we are not able to release a 6.0K patch, so instead, we are planning to add the fixes in the 7.0A release.

    Granto has also been graciously looking into on the Amazon TW 7.0 extended map to RSII battlemap conversion. The 7.0 already has some RSII battlemap conversion, but we feel it is the best to let the master working on this.

    With the addition of East Celt (Tocharian/Yuezhi) people and their wagon units, the 7.0 is going to be a very exciting release, all based on anthropological thesis.

    Some of the wagon units are also added to the Libyan amazon as well as the Thyssa Amazon factions.

    There are also major re-works to "balance" the unit appearance, unit capability, as well as unit cost.

    The current anticipated release date is still around Christmas of 2012 or the New Year of 2013.

    If you still experiencing problem not able to save the game in 6.0K release.

    Here is the trick...

    When the RTW/BI software first started, and you enter into the campaign (either starting a new campaign or resume the previous campaign), the strategic adviser will show up on the screen to advise you to kick-start the Amazon Mod Script. You must first click the "X" icon right next to the advisor to close the advisor message first then press the ESC key and the "?" icon on the popup menu, then click the green icon just below the advisor's to activate the script.

    This problem has been corrected in 7.0.
