Don't forget that giant diamond planet they found a couple of years ago.
I'll ask again: if a gang-rape had started, do you think it would've been playfully incorporated into the show? Do you think the jokes would've kept flowing?
planetoids and asteroids are synonyms so I do not really follow... Assuming you mean planets my point is that when you exploit the entirety of a solar system the singular inhabitable planet suddenly becomes less interesting, particularly when it is about exploiting non organic raw resources for advanced alloys and it's not like we can synthesize a lot of carbon based components even when using oil might be cheaper. You'll care more about the concentration of ores, the ease of their exploitation and unhindered smelting facilities and the place where you can bring it all together. Without an open ecosystem industries can work on an entirely different level because Io is already a volcanic death trap, creating millions of tons of toxic industrial waste and dumping it there won't change anything.
Resource rich small moons and planets would be more accessible for space bound exploitation than bigger planets with heavier gravity and atmospheres and dealing with ecosystems and earth based populations more annoying when there are vast swathes of real estate without anything of note in there.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "
