Default Beta testers needed to correct a crash bug

I have a nasty crash bug, and I can't really found how to correct it.

The game crashes in a middle of the battle. I just tried 3 battles in a row (with France and Russia), it crashed everytime. All were with small funds.
    - First time I had artillery, infantry cavalry. And the audio pack one
    - Second I had infantry, cavlary. No audio pack
    - Third I had infantry and general only, no audio pack.

I got the crash everytime after I got the message "our men are running", with the small animation played in the video.

But sometime I got this animation and sound, and no crash.

The crash was already present with the latest release (Austria).

So I 'd like testers to try as many battle as possible, small funds should be enough, and try to find a common point for the crash.

What type of units, what factions, after this video or anytime, etc.

    Bonsoir Steph,

I have following case, i can always recreate the error but cannot pinpoint which unit.
I thought it was because mod is not finished, this case is during french campaign 1805 , near strassbourg, against Austria force

    austrian units :

    paul davidovich
    kurrassiere 1805 bohmen
    kurrassiere 1805 bayeren
    1 x 6lb horse art 1805 wurtemberg
    4 x 6 lb fussart
    2 x 7 lbs haubitzer 1813 wurtemberg
    sappeur grenadiere
    grenzer kroatien
    freiwillger jager
    jager 1805
    linieninf grenadire bayern
    leibgarde inf
    musketiere 1813

    french units :

    guillaune marie anne
    joachim murat
    chasseurs a cheval 1804
    art a pied 8lb 1805 aquitaine
    art a pied 8 lb 1805 alsace
    grenadier de ligne 1805
    fuseliers de ligne 1805
    chasseurs legere 1805
    fussieliere suisse
    voltiguer legere 1805
    carabiniers legere 1805
    voltigeure ligne 1805

this is during campaign , not battle , so i dont know if this helps you or not ?

i also noticed that the last crash was with a horse unit of the austrians and that the guns were not yellow but normal guns ? .....if a try with austrians in battle i have yellow guns , in the campaign he enemy austria has normal colloured ones ?

brgds and if u need me to pinpoint any unit , please shoot as this mod deserves real good play !

The mdmp file generated by NTW when a crash occurs can be opened with Miscroft Visual 2012 express.

It contains very useful informaiton (sarcasm), mostly it says

"The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access"

    So, this won't help...

I did some more testing, removing the "sound bank" from the MoE_main.pack., and it worked better (no crash with two battles.

So if you can try playing without it (the voices will all be in English and they'll seay "revolutionnary guards" and other stupid lines.

If it's really in the sound bank, that's a pity because playing with correct voices is much better. But at least it gives an idea to start with.

Maybe one of the voice sound file is missing or corrupted.

It would be interested to check with different factions, the best would be to try France/ France, Austria/Austria, etc. and see if the sounds are ok when playing with only one faction, and if it crashes, for what factions.

Thanks but don't forget the campaign is only for early test and is not supposed to be played much.
I'd prefer if testers can focus on the battles until we can identify the crash.
I think the bug in a battle from the campaign is probably the same as in custom battle, but custom battle make it easier to try different configuration.

When you say "last crash was with a horse unit", can you be more specific? Did it crash when you are doing something special with this unit?

I spent a good part of my week end on the sound issue.

There were some error, where a sound file in English was overwritten by a sound file in German.
But I still have wrong voices.

So I guess I will have to try all the sounds one by one to check them.

First of all, this is by far the best mod for NTW and it isn't even finished yet! In one word: Sublime! Everything is just great, from gameplay to visuals to realism. Truly a great job.

I've been playing the campaign with France and it works great. I've played a lot of battles and I haven't found a "the men are running" crash yet (most of my battles are against Prussia). It runs real smooth actually. I know the mod is focussing on the battles right now, but I have to say that the campaign is very enjoyable.

I did notice the foreign voices for some of the French units, but I do not think this should be a high priority issue. The rest of the mod absolutely makes up for it and you could just finetune these things when it's done. This so you don't get bogged done over one issue and so the public can fully enjoy this mod. Just my oppinion.

Just wanted to let you know that you are doing a great job with this one and keep it up! Best mod so far!!!

Thanks for the kind comment. However, I'm afraid your praises may be a little biased. If you played the campaign, and mostly with France vs Prussia, then in the battles you faced only the vanilla units, with their original settings, and so couldn't really test the feeling.
And the voice sounds for Prussia were also not set.

But well, if you enjoy it with Prussia not even done, we can hope that when it's finalized it will be even better.

Can you tell us a little more about the campaign. What about the recruitment of French units for example?

About the voice crash: since I played several battles with the previous version (France vs Britain) and I don't remember many crashes, it is likely it comes from the sounds in the German/Russian voices.

And for the wrong voices, I know it is not of paramount importance, but I'd like to tackle the issue for two reasons:
    - May be it is a symptom of something wrong that cause the crash, and located the issue could help solving the crash
    - Sound setting are HUGE. 59000 lines in the XML file so far, and I have added only 11 factions! So it's better to try to correct it before it grows even larger.

I've been playing a lot of battles versus Great Britain as well (always fighting on 2 sometimes 3 fronts). The Brits come at me mostly in Bretagne and later through Spain (very realistic). The Prussians keep harassing me from the North and East (they seem to be reproducing like rabbits )
So I think it is very, very promising as I, like you said, haven't got the real taste yet.

About the Campaign: It is great. The recruitment is very realistic and it causes you to focus on where you're getting your troops from. It requires a lot of planning, as sometimes your precious Line Infantry needs to cross the country before they can be of any help. It is a rather nice challenge.
I myself am obsessed by the appearance of my armies (Especially when they're stacked up) and I need to have them in order (of quality). Ex: In an army with 2 units of Cuirassiers, 1 Hussars and 1 Dragoons, I need them to be in order so that the 2 units of cuirassiers are stacked first, followed by the dragoons and then the hussars. Or with Infantry: first Imperial Guard Units, then Grenadiers, then Line Infantry and then Light Infantry/Skirmishers. Since in NTW the recruitment order determines in which order your units are stacked, this takes a lot of planning. The recruitment in MoE makes this a real (exciting) challenge. I know this is weird by the way...

After a lot of planning I finally came to recruiting the Line Infantry. With just the starting regions for France that gave me about 50 units of just Line Infantry, which is a lot of units. I was able to create 5 to 6 armies (I have 25 units per army instead of the vanilla 20) of all types of units. So if you ask me, the recruiting is awesome and challenging!
Now here is where it goes wrong for me... I am now in turn 140 or something (january 1811), but I still can not recruit any units from 1807. Only the Bicorn infantry from 1805. Only in France itself I am able to recruit a couple of new units (line Inf. and Skirmishers), but not all of the units I should be able to recruit. I own Switzerland with all the required buildings and I can only recruit the Bicorn units and some Grenadiers. At this point (january1811) I am running out of units to recruit, as I am still stuck to the same 50 Line Infantry units I recruited earlier on.

Do I need to get to 1812 or something, because I am missing a lot of 1807 units... Or do I need to follow certain requirements? Help me out man!

Well, the campaign is just to beta test the recruitment and the mechanism.
The script for recruitment is not done except for a few units as test, so I'm afraid you are stuck with early units for the moment.

The periods are fully playable only in custom battles.

Ok, good to know. No problem though.

The recruitment system passed with flying colours!

Oh, the occupied units work great as well. I conquered Wurtemberg and I can recruit a nice little army consisting of only Wurtembergers, same goes for Brandenburg. I have a question though. I like to liberate regions instead of occupy them. Will you make it work so that one can recruit the Wurtemberg units for example from one of the home regions, or does one really need to occupy the region to be able to recruit their full roster? 'Cause a state should be able to retain its "independence" and only deliver military personnel to the ruling nation.

I don't think it is possible. The recruitment is linked to the region, so you need to own it.
Here is how I see it:
    1) You can liberate the faction. You should get a few bonus units from it (deliver military personnel as you said). Then the faction will recruit its own troops, and hopefully they will fight with you. This is a "loose alliance"'.
    2) You can decide you need to control the alliance. Then you occupy it, and can decide what to recruit and where to send it. In that case, when I play I don't consider it as a real annexation, but more as an alliance with very close supervision: the faction remain indepandant "in theory", but is actually more a kind of puppet that does really have a say in the decision. Drawback: people are not very happy.

    Thanks!

What I usually do, is occupy the region, recruit the available units, then give the region to one of my enemies (some good old fashioned region swapping ) and then attack it again and liberate them. Best of both worlds, but not very realistic...

I'll keep playing the campaign and I'll let you know if I run into anything. Again, great job!

A few tests today, with small funds battles
    - Russia (me) vs France (AI): no crash
    - Austria (me) vs France (AI) : crash, and not when a video was playing. Nothing special here.
    - France (me) vs Austria (AI): crash, no easy to identify event
    - France (me) vs Russia (AI): no crash, victory (1227 ennemy killed for 230 casualties ).

I suspect a bug in the Austrian somewhere. May be the sounds.

And I have another sound bugs. The artillery shell sound now makes a can of "sounk" instead of "woousshh"

I'm puzzled. The "woussh" sound is defined in the sound event for PROJECTILE_IncomingCannonBall event.
But this event appears no where in the soundbanks...

I don't know why it plays a "sounk" sound instead

    Damned sounds.
